Vellottamparappu is a panchayat town in Erode district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[1] Vellottamparappu had a population of 8129. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Vellottamparappu has an average literacy rate of 64%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; male literacy is 75%, and female literacy is 52%. In Vellottamparappu, 8% of the population is under 6 years of age.

More about the village

The village has a Government High School which has been achieving 100% results in the SSLC examination for the last couple of years. In 2007-08 SSLC, the first rank holder has secured 479 marks out of 500 which is a great achievement in this rural school. Recently, the school has acquired the Higher Secondary status.

The village has a small library which houses more than 1000 books and various periodicals. It is of great use to the students as well as local people.'The near village' is naduppalayam have a market it opens every Thursday.

It also has a beautiful kottai Mariamman temple and also a sivan kovil we will see there two nandi's ever seen in the world. The Kundam festival which occurs annually in January and February is very famous in that area.

The population mostly consists of farmers and agricultural labourers who are dependent on the Kalingarayan canal. The main crops are turmeric, paddy, sugarcane, maize, ginger, etc., Though the yield is good, the people are suffering mainly due to the lower prices for their products.

This village holds the small villages perumampalayam,periyur,arikarankattur,thitukattur,vellapampalayam,anaigoundan pudur, Devampalayam, Naduppalayam,Devampalayam,Annamar Kovil,Vaduganur.
