The Verdun Junior Canadiens were a junior ice hockey team in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League from 1984 to 1989. They played at the Verdun Auditorium.

History

The Verdun Junior Canadiens won the Presidents Trophy in the 1984-85 season as playoff champions, defeating the Shawinigan Cataractes in the finals.

The Junior Canadiens would compete in the Memorial Cup that year versus the Prince Albert Raiders, Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, and the host Shawinigan Cataractes. Verdun would lose all three games; 6-3 to the Greyhounds, 5-3 to the Raiders, and 5-1 to Shawinigan, ending their hopes of a Memorial Cup championship.

Two years later the Jr. Canadiens were dead last in the QMJHL, and stayed there for 3 consecutive years. The team was sold after the 1988-1989 season, becoming the Saint-Hyacinthe Laser.

Players

Claude Lemieux was awarded the Guy Lafleur Trophy as the playoffs MVP in 1984-85. Jimmy Carson won the Michel Bergeron as the offensive Rookie of the Year in 1984-84, as well as the Mike Bossy Trophy as the best professional prospect & the Frank J. Selke Commemorative Trophy as most sportsmanlike player in 1985-86.
