The millenium finds Wadena ridden with methamphetamine labs, and crime statistics are increasing at a staggering rate. The former air base north of the city was converted to a residential treatment facility in the 1980's, and houses the crack whores and dregs of society sent from metropolitain Hennepin County as a means of distributing crime to the rural areas. Those sent to this facility often stay in the Wadena area and bring their low life scum infested friends with them to pollute the town with filth.
