Walter Wootton Averill was an eminent Anglican priest in mid Twentieth century New Zealand.[1]

The son of a former Archbishop of New Zealand, he was educated at the University of New Zealand and ordained in 1924.[2] After a curacy in Cambridge he held incumbencies at Hauraki, Ponsonby[3] and Auckland before his appointment as Archdeacon of Timaru, a post he held from 1945 until 1953.
