Washington is a town in Shawano County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,903 at the 2000 census.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 39.0 square miles (101.0 km²), of which, 35.4 square miles (91.6 km²) of it is land and 3.6 square miles (9.4 km²) of it (9.29%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 1,903 people, 803 households, and 586 families residing in the town. The population density is 53.8 people per square mile (20.8/km²). There are 1,217 housing units at an average density of 34.4 per square mile (13.3/km²). The racial makeup of the town is 95.32% White, 0.11% African American, 3.26% Native American, 0.42% from other races, and 0.89% from two or more races. 1.26% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 803 households out of which 23.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.6% are married couples living together, 5.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.9% are non-families. 22.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.37 and the average family size is 2.76.

In the town the population is spread out with 20.8% under the age of 18, 5.0% from 18 to 24, 22.9% from 25 to 44, 30.2% from 45 to 64, and 21.2% who are 65 years of age or older.
