Function Details: There bot will look at the pages from here[1] that i will make into a array that the bot can read User:Addbot/Pdfbot/list here for example. The bot will then load each of the image pages and look for {{BadPDF}}, {{Move to Wikisource}} and {{BadFormat}}. If the page includes any of these the bot will skip the page. If the page doesn't have one of these then it will explode the page and add the {{BadFormat}} tag just below the summary heading. The bot can be run probably monthly or when needed and once the bot has gone through the entire given list it will stop.
Discussion
[edit]I am currently still in the process of creating this bot but would be nice to see if it gets approved before i do any more. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 15:51, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Do you keep a list of tagged pages? According to the database there are at the moment 1214 pdf's of which 1137 don't transclude any of the above templates. However in a later run I assume most pages will already be tagged so it would be better not to check them again. --Erwin85 (talk) 08:36, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- I could create a log of all the files that get tagged. Thats a good idea =]. Ty. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 15:09, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- Has any consensus been demonstrated to do this? Wikipedia:Bot requests/Archive 20#Tagging PDFs does not seem to have much discussion on the matter. Given that PDF, an open format, does sometimes preserve details that are lost in plain text, HTML, or PNG, I would think this should probably be handled on a case-by-case basis instead of by bot. krimpet✽ 19:55, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- There was a discussion at Wikipedia talk:CSD that resulted in a new speedy deletion criterion specifically for unencyclopedic PDFs: [2]. The fact that PDFs can preserve details other formats can't isn't much use when the file can't be displayed in an article (so images in PDF format are useless) and can't be edited (so articles in PDF format are useless). Hut 8.5 08:36, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- I agree with HuT and the fact that really pdf's are useless, I agree that some of the pdf's may need to stay as pdf's but then they should be moved to wikisource e.t.c.
