  • On 7/22/2021, the complainant created an article about himself through the (stadium) feature, and linked the stadium to WikiData. With the aim of promoting his search on the search engine Google. The editor and retriever of Wikipedia, Osama Eid, drew attention to this violation, and retrieved what the complainant had written about himself.
  • The complainant rejected the behavior of Osama Eid, who built his hopes and fame on Wikipedia, which prompted him to go to the Attorney General’s office in the State of Palestine and file a criminal complaint based on the decision under Law No. (10). ) of the year 2018 on cybercrime.
  • The Public Prosecution has charged the defendant (Osama Eid), which is the accusation of deliberately illegally entering a website, in violation of Article No. 4 F1 of the decree-law.
  • The Public Prosecution referred Wikipedia's editor and retriever, Osama Eid, to the Magistrate's Court in Nablus, based on spatial jurisdiction.
  • The defendant, Osama Eid, appeared before the judge, and the complainant made several allegations against the defendant, including unlawfully deleting his stadium, causing him material damage (as he was expected to benefit financially from Wikipedia) and accusing the defendant of causing damage to his reputation.
  • On 11/17/2021, the accused presented defensive evidence.. Such evidence was a book from Wikimedia of the Levant showing the powers of the accused, and making it clear that Wikipedia's content is public and not private.
  • The trial was attended by 8 sessions, and the case was postponed a lot due to requests for a grace period submitted by the Attorney General.

On Tuesday, 5/7/2022, a distinguished and rare ruling was issued, due to the crime of intentionally and unlawfully entering, and no one was brought before the court because of it. Osama Eid says that the experience was unique and special, as he defended himself and Wikipedia before the courts. This ruling will enhance the legal protection of Wikipedia users, and this ruling is the first ruling related to the editors of the World Encyclopedia (Wikipedia) in the Arab region. And the first ruling issued in favor of Wikipedia in the Levant.

Osama Eid (Editor and Retriever on Arabic Wikipedia): The experience was useful, especially since I practiced the details of the sacred right to defend myself in all its forms, from presenting defensive evidence to pleading. I wrote and submitted a plea, signed on 5 pages, in which I saw the most prominent meanings of the law, and in it I saw creativity and wisdom in detailing legal matters.
