Very vivid and colourful image, extremely hi-res and of good quality, it's aesthetically pleasing and does a good job on demonstrating how varied the species has become through breeding.

  • I'd like to explain this. Pigments, while usually something we think of as being in paints, also are naturally occuring in plants. For example most land plants have Anthocyanin, a pigment that absorbs green light (reflecting red and blue light) and give many flowers, fruits and autumn leaves their colour. Tomatoes naturally have the red pigment Lycopene, and carrots are best known for their carotenoids, which are also naturally occuring without the introduction of any artifical pigment. I don't know if it's the levels of different carotenoids, or changes in pH, or a range of completely different pigments that are making these carrots change colour, but it's something that is naturally occuring within the carrot, in different varieties of the one species.
