Original – Detail of the tomb of the architect Giovanni Battista Gislenni, designed by himself two years before he died. Church of Santa Maria del Popolo, Rome. The Latin legend reads Neque illic mortuus and is complemented by another one above (here), reading Neque hic vivus. That is, "Neither alive here or dead there". The meaning is elusive but may be related to his belief in eternal life.
