Original – Fossil Temnodontosaurus acutirostris, an extinct species of Ichthyosaur (fully aquatic reptiles resembling fish) from the Late Jurassic period. The specimen is about 1 m in length. Surrounding the Temnodontosaurus are fossil amnonoids of the species Harpoceras falcifer.
Reason
High quality image of an impressive fossil. Not only does the fossil show the skeletal structure of the animal but also the outline of its body where it once had flesh. The fossil ammonoids surrounding the Temnodontosaurus are additionally well preserved.
