The John Rylands Library.

An edit-a-thon will be held at John Rylands Library, Manchester, on 29 January 2019. This session is intended for University of Manchester Library (UML) staff and is co-organised by the UML and Wikimedia UK.

Session summary

[edit]

This session will introduce staff from the UML to the benefits of Wikipedia as a teaching tool, and as a means to promote awareness of our collections and materials to the public. Working alongside experienced Wikipedia editors, participants will be introduced to the tools and techniques required to begin editing and creating Wikipedia entries, and how they can start contributing to Wikipedia projects.

The edit-a-thon theme will focus around UML and our collections — “Our Collections, our people”.

The session will also mark the beginning of a larger UML project which aims to generate future collaborations with Wikipedia, such as making future workshops available to the local community and working towards a common goal of making knowledge more accessible to the general public.
