The International Museum Day is placed under the theme of sustainable development and health. Since 2020, the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations are themed and consist of 17 goals.
For 2023, goal #3 Health and Well-being has been chosen by ICOM (International Council of Museums). Around the Museums Day, there are a series of projects that are summarized here.

The goal is to strengthen the presence of museums in wiki projects and to open their expertise to all. Museums will thus be more visible in Wikipedia and in sister projects. As non-profit institutions, they pursue the goals of sustainable development now included in the new definition of museums. The focus is on visible and invisible cultural heritage, which is shared with communities through structures of diversity, inclusion and sustainability.

The event addresses the new definition of museums and supports the enduring work of cultural memory in an era shaken by crises. How can objects in collections be preserved and protected for the future? How digital can a museum be? The GLAM Digital event focuses on the digitization process and invites collaboration.

This GLAM Digital event takes place within the GLAM Digital DACH series. It will exceptionally be held in English.

About GLAM Digital

[edit]

GLAM Digital is a series of videoconferences with selected cultural and memory institutions (GLAM). Each event, usually two hours in length, consists of a specialized presentation by the institution on a specific topic. The Wikipedia community and the institutions then engage in a direct exchange during a dialogue section. The event series is coordinated and supported jointly by Wikimedia Germany, Wikimedia Austria and Wikimedia CH.
