Information learned[edit]

  • The wikimedia malaysia volunteer meetup in Negeri Sembilan is a meetup that has just been held for the first time in this location. Wikimedia Malaysia volunteer meetup are usually held in Kuala Lumpur and some other places, and have never been held in Negeri Sembilan.
  • The theme of this meeting in Negeri Sembilan was alam terkombang jadikan guru. In the meeting, it would be discussed about the customs of Negeri Sembilan which are also called Minangkabau customs.
  • This meetup was a meeting between fellow Wikimedia project volunteers, and also a meeting with the traditional leaders of Negeri Sembilan, namely: Dr Mohd Rosli Saludin.
  • Meetings between fellow Wikimedia project volunteers discuss self-introduction, projects that have been carried out previously, and discuss what activities that do it on there.
  • This series of meeting activities in Negeri Sembilan, first visited the village of King Teromba. There is a galley and books about Minangkabau customs in Negeri Sembilan. In addition, in the village of Raja Teromba there is also an arena for performing traditional Minangkabau arts such as randai and silat.
  • In the raja teromba village, the volunteers of the wikimedia project also listened to a briefing or explanation about Minangkabau customs found in Negeri Sembilan from Prof. Datuk Paduka Dr. Mohd Rosli Saludin. The custom of Datuk Perpatih is a custom used in Negeri Sembilan. The custom certainly comes from the Minangkabau region in West Sumatra which was then accepted by the people of Negeri Sembilan at that time, so that the customs in Negeri Sembilan are the same as the customs in Minangkabau, West Sumatra, one example is adhering to the matrilineal kinship system or the mother's line of descent, You cannot marrying members of the same tribe, etc.
  • Prof. Datuk Paduka Dr. Mohd Rosli Saludin also explained about the names of the tribes found in Negeri Sembilan. The names of the tribes are the names of regions found in the Minangkabau region of West Sumatra. For example, Payakumbuh tribe, Tanah Datar tribe, Batu Hampa tribe, these names are the names of places in West Sumatra.
  • The similarities between the Negeri Sembilan Malaysia and the Minangkabau of West Sumatra is found in the system of traditional society where there are penghulu or niniak mamak, alim ulama and cadiak pandai, in Minangkabau terms it is called "tigo tungku sajarangan "
  • Regarding traditional arts, Prof Datuk Paduka Dr Mohd Rosli also explained that randai is also a traditional art in Negeri Sembilan which is played somewhere at night and at certain ceremonies. Apart from that, when there is a traditional party or traditional ceremony, we will see flags of 3 colors (yellow, red, black) installed along the road. This is the same as in the Minangkabau region of West Sumatra where the flag is called marawa.
  • Traditional buildings or traditional houses in Negeri Sembilan also resemble the form of the rumah gadang minangkabau in West Sumatra, where the house is shaped like a stilt house with a gnarled roof or atap bergojong. In the house there is also a veranda and several rooms.
  • Traditional women's clothing in Negeri Sembilan is also the same as women's clothing in Minangkabau, West Sumatra. Women in Negeri Sembilan also wear a head covering called "tingkuluak tanduak".

Plans after event[edit]

  • The activities of the Negeri Sembilan Wikimedia meeting were very interesting. There are many cultural customs, cultural arts, traditional buildings found in Negeri Sembilan. The similarity between the culture of Negeri Sembilan and the Minangkabau culture of West Sumatra means that there are many things that can be done. This activity will certainly give the ideas that will be able to provide information and disseminate information more widely about Minangkabau customs in Negeri Sembilan. Plans that can be implemented in the future include the following. Adding articles related to Minangkabau culture in Negeri Sembilan on Wikipedia. Documenting cultural objects in Negeri Sembilan as well as museums in Negeri Sembilan. Documenting the traditional foods of Negeri Sembilan. Documenting traditional arts or traditional ceremonies such as "olek Godang".

Feedback[edit]

  • At the first Wikimedia meeting in Negeri Sembilan there were several notes for the next meet up meeting. This meeting only requires one activity, for example: documenting traditional Negeri Sembilan houses and uploading them to Wikimedia Commons. Just focus on documenting activities, because that way you will get lots of pictures of the shapes of traditional Minangkabau houses in Negeri Sembilan. Hopefully I can participate again in Wikimedia activities in Negeri Sembilan.
