The Australian Wikimedia community meets monthly. Every second month there is an open community meeting followed by a seminar from special guests (like this one!) alternate months.

Keynote Presentation: From tentmaking to pagemaking: how editing Wikipedia reshaped an academic career - For Dr Sam Bowker, creating a Wikipedia on decorative Egyptian tentmaking changed his life. His research for the page led to a series of peer-reviewed publications and exhibitions, and ultimately grew into a project that was recognised by the ARC for research impact in 2018. This February community meeting, we will hear about his collaborative work with the Historians of Islamic Art Association on initiatives for Wikipedia editing as a teaching strategy that has resulted in new pages, expanded stubs, and improved existing sites for Islamic art. Dr Bowker is the Sub Dean Graduate Studies (Faculty of Arts & Education) and a Senior Lecturer in Art History and Visual Culture at Charles Sturt University.

Meetup Code of Conduct

The Wikimedia Australia Safe Spaces policy is here. All attendees are also expected to understand and abide by the Draft Universal Code of Conduct for the Wikimedia Movement.

While attending and remaining anonymous is supported by the group, lurking is not supported and will be actively discouraged. All attendees are expected to use their Username as an identifier on the video conference call and to introduce themselves and their interest in joining the call on the chat channel of the call as a minimum. Participation using video and/or voice in addition to chat is encouraged but not required.
