  1. Why do you want to be a Wikipedia Ambassador?
I want to leverage my skills as a researcher and investigator to help others contribute quality material to Wikipedia
  2. In three sentences or less, summarize your involvement with Wikimedia projects.
Like many now-regular contributors, I began my edits sporadically on various topics on the English Wikipedia. Eventually, I began cross-contributing Indonesia-related materials here, on the Indonesian Wikipedia, and on the Wikimedia Commons. I dedicate most of my remaining energy into the WikiProjects related to additional niche topics that I am interested in.
  3. Please indicate a few articles to which you have made significant content contributions. (e.g. DYK, GA, FA, major revisions/expansions/copyedits).
My notable content contributions are available on my user page. Additions have been slow as of late because my latest project on rewriting the article on Chinese Indonesians, which is nearing completion, took a good portion of the past year. I have improved my writing and fact gathering skills with every major contribution. Aside from Indonesia-related contributions, I am most proud of the creation of a quality Wong Fu Productions article, which was previously salted to prevent re-creation, after a successful deletion review in 2009. That article now has a strong daily viewership.
  4. How have you been involved with welcoming and helping new users on Wikipedia?
I admit that I have little experience with new users when working within Wikipedia's visible structure of welcoming them, such as using talk page messages and whatnot. I am a talk page stalker and occasionally help new users that way when they post on other contributors' talk pages. I have extensive experience helping veteran contributors because I can often find information where none can seemingly be found using unconventional search methods of obscure content.
  5. What do you see as the most important ways we could welcome newcomers or help new users become active contributors?
New users are easily overwhelmed if presented with too much information too fast. We must make their first experiences engaging in order to catch their attention (and also hold it).
  6. Have you had major conflicts with other editors? Blocks or bans? Involvement in arbitration? Feel free to offer context, if necessary.
There are no major conflicts that I am aware of, though I am still prone to the usual butting of heads that other regular contributors will face. As I remember, none of them went out of control.
  7. How often do you edit Wikipedia and check in on ongoing discussions? Will you be available regularly for at least two hours per week, in your role as a mentor?
While my mainspace editing activity comes in spurts, I peruse the website using my account weekly. I generally only actively participate in discussions with my related WikiProjects. Unless there is something that has not been said in community-wide discussions, I opt to abstain from the discussion though I continue to monitor them.
  8. What else should we know about you that is relevant to being a Wikipedia Ambassador?
Advocacy of minority groups has been my line of work since my undergraduate years, and I believe I can support the easily overlooked third Ambassador Principle well. As an alumnus of Cornell University, I have been exposed to a strong culture of educational research and can help with assisting with WikiProject GLAM as needed. Helping fellow students was one of my passions as a leader of several student organizations.
