Discussion is preserved as an archive of a unsuccessful Online Ambassador application.

After running for several weeks without consensus, I am closing this application as unsuccessful. Over the next couple of semesters, spend some time becoming familiar with the policies and guidelines that support the Wikipedia community. We welcome your input in editing and writing articles. You might also enjoy working with the Wiki Guides and learning more about welcoming new members. If you ever need help or have questions, please don't hesitate to ask. 1. Why do you want to be a Wikipedia Ambassador?
Its very simple, to help Wikipedia grow and make it a more friendly place to be in. New Editors, if encouraged, can play a importance role in improving the quality of articles. I would like to help students with Wikipedia policies and wiki-markup.
  2. In three sentences or less, summarize your involvement with Wikimedia projects.
My main works include reverting Vandalism and working on articles. I also create new articles some times. I am not much active on other Wikimedia projects, but I contribute to them sometimes.
  3. Please indicate a few articles to which you have made significant content contributions. (e.g. DYK, GA, FA, major revisions/expansions/copyedits).
I have significantly contributed to List of Afghanistan T20I cricketers, which is a FL. I have also done major work on Rambhadracharya and 100 euro note, both of them being GA. I have worked on 12 articles, which have come on DYK. You can verify them here.
  4. How have you been involved with welcoming and helping new users on Wikipedia?
To be honest, I am semi-active welcoming new users. However whenever I see a promising user, I do ask him for any queries.
  5. What do you see as the most important ways we could welcome newcomers or help new users become active contributors?
In my opinion, IRC is a very good tool for newbies, to clear their doubts. However It might not be easy to use for them. In that case, Teahouse, Tutorial and Feedback Dashboard are nice ways. Same is the case with Adopt-a-user, however it is better for those users who want to be long term users, rather than just wanting to clear some of their doubts.
  6. Have you had major conflicts with other editors? Blocks or bans? Involvement in arbitration? Feel free to offer context, if necessary.
Earlier when I was active on projects other than enwp, I got in some conflicts. However I have been on English Wikipedia for a long time and I have been not in any conflicts. I usually try to stay away from arbitration.
  7. How often do you edit Wikipedia and check in on ongoing discussions? Will you be available regularly for at least two hours per week, in your role as a mentor?
I have been very active on Wikipedia, however I was not much active in past 3 months due to some reasons. But now I will be available. I usually visit Wikipedia every day. I check my watchlist frequently, so most probably I will answer any question in not much time.
  8. How would you make sure your students were not violating Copyright laws?
I have a firm knowledge of copyright. I will be continuously reviewing the student's edits, and in case I think that there is a copyvio, I will verify it and inform the student concerned.
  9. If one of your students had an issue with Copyright Violation how would resolve it?
First of all I will fix it or mark it for deletion. Then I will contact that student, informing about the violation and how to prevent it in future.
  10. In your _own_ words describe what Copyright Violation is.
Copyvios can be of two types, text or image. Text copyvio is copy-pasting text, with some or no changes, from a source, which has release its content under a licence not compatible with Wikipedia. In case of image, it should be released under a free licence by the author. Non-free image can be uploaded, if passes the non-free content criteria.
  11. What else should we know about you that is relevant to being a Wikipedia Ambassador?
I like to be civil and be cool while interacting with others. I can communicate in English easily. Also being a student, I can communicate with other students more freely and being more friendly.

Thanks for considiration.
