Sesame Street: Help in locating a segment[edit]

Trying to identify episode from TV show somewhat like Twilight Zone[edit]

I'm trying to identify something I saw on TV many, many years ago, probably sometime between 1985 and 1995 or so. I thought it was an episode from the first Twilight Zone revival, but I can't seem to find anything like it in our list of episodes, so it must have been something else. What I remember was the ending: a man was in prison, for some reason, and he whiled away his time by devising chess problems which he then mailed to the world chess champion. Since he never received a reply, he believed he had beaten the champion and therefore considered himself the greatest chess genius in the world.
