The Mime in Johnny and Mary[edit]

In the video clip of Robert Palmer's "Johnny and Mary" there is a male mime. Who is he?

  • I tried IMVDb (the Internet Music Video Database), but sadly they don't have information on that video: [1]. I've viewed the video on YouTube, but I can't place that actor. --Jayron32 14:19, 6 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Mike O'Brien? (I currently can't view the site, and couldn't find any credits or other reference mentioning him. Only got the idea from a snippet shown in a google search. ---Sluzzelin talk 14:43, 6 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • No, the actor Mike O'Brien would have been 4 years old when the video in question came out... --Jayron32 15:58, 6 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Oops (premature in more than one sense, thanks :-) ---Sluzzelin talk 17:33, 6 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, wait: These are two different Mike O'Briens. In any event, the one pictured here looks older than 38 and his facial features match the mime's in the video clip. So my suggestion still stands, if shakily. ---Sluzzelin talk 22:41, 6 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It is indeed the older O'Brien. There is a pointer to the video on his page at Facebook. I am startled to realize how long Palmer has been dead. To me the memory of his music still seems so fresh. He does not age. Meanwhile, the rest of us grow older. Thanks for your help dudes... Captainbeefart (talk) 09:17, 8 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Buddy Holly remains perpetually 22 years old. Fat lot of good it does him, though. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 06:47, 10 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Alsou's real name[edit]

A question on her article's talk page got me on the track of an outright mystery: Several sources such as this 2002 book, AskMen (undated, but probably from 2004 or not much later), German FHM in 2001 (apparently) and this blog entry from 2005 indeed give her full name as Alsou Tenisheva or Alsou Safina Tenisheva respectively (the Safina variant appearing to rule out a simple mix-up with some other person). A comment at the blog entry disagrees and maintains Tenisheva is a different person, but then, who else could Alsou Tenisheva be? I haven't found anything on the web so far about that putative other person called Alsou Tenisheva. Instead, I found this newspaper article from the Moscow Times from 2000, which also calls Alsou Tenisheva and not Abramova. What's up with that? Neither the English nor the Russian article even mention that name, unless I have missed it. We are told, instead, that she was born Safina and is now called Abramova. Perhaps she was married to somebody called Tenish (?) for some short time in 2000? Did she use a pseudonym? Something about local customs, naming conventions or something cultural I'm not aware of? Or is this just a weird mistake that was spread by some outlet and propagated for a while back in 2001 or so, but stopped propagating eventually? If so, it's strange that nobody appears to have noticed. The sources using "Tenisheva" admit no uncertainty nor any hint that there might be another name she might have ever borne, nor is there any source to be found that denounces the name "Tenisheva" for Alsou as a mix-up or plain error. It's as if there were two parallel universes, one in which Alsou is called Abramova and one in which she is called Tenisheva, and ne'er the twain shall meet. --Florian Blaschke (talk) 23:36, 6 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The twain met (well, Alsou Safina Ralifovna and Alsou Ralifovna Tenisheva did) in this article from 2002 by Rashid Aliyev. Nothing more conclusive than that, so far. ---Sluzzelin talk 00:20, 8 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
"Thus far, there are still many versions circulating of what Alsou's real name is and where she comes from. According to one source, she is Alsou Safina Ralifovna. Proponents of this version think that her dad is Ralif Safin, vice-president of the concern "Lukoil". Other (more knowledgeable) sources claim that the girl's name is Alsou Ralifovna Tenisheva. These are the two main versions."
Interesting, thanks ... --Florian Blaschke (talk) 23:05, 9 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
