[edit]Olympic bandy?
[edit]Why is bandy not in the Olympic Games? It would fit well in the Winter Games, I think. Outer Image (talk) 12:47, 28 March 2015 (UTC)
- Because no one has successfully lobbied for it. There are plenty of sports which the International Olympic Committee could add to (or subtract from) both the summer and winter games, and the current list is at their discretion. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 14:30, 28 March 2015 (UTC)
- In case you didn't already, see Bandy#Olympic_Games. Staecker (talk) 17:16, 28 March 2015 (UTC)
- Because as vehemently as bandy enthusiasts will disagree with me, bandy is basically ice hockey. —Nelson Ricardo (talk) 04:13, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
- It appears to be like hockey played on a football field sized rink. That requirement alone could be a problem, as they might have to build a rink just for that one sport. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 06:54, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
- Not necessarily. A speed skating rink requires about the same size, so it would actually be more efficient, since speed skating always is on the programme and requires a rink anyway. These sport can share a rink, just like short track shares a rink with ice hockey. Bandy Hoppsan (talk) 21:46, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
- The answer would seem to be lack of broad interest. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 05:19, 30 March 2015 (UTC)

- There are 32 members of the Federation of International Bandy. I live in one of those countries and I've never heard of this sport. I suspect I'm not alone, and goes back to Bugs' point about "broad interest". Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 10:28, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
- The fourth Google hit on Olympic bandy is [1] from 2010 which says: "The International Olympic Committee recognizes the sport because the requisite 25 nations have bandy federations (about 14 actually play regularly), but it does not have sufficient standing for the Olympics." My country does not play bandy and although I'm sports interested and had heard the name, I thought it was field hockey and not played on ice. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:28, 31 March 2015 (UTC)
- Interestingly enough, though it may look like field hockey, the rules of bandy are actually more like association football. – I want to thank Wikipedia for its coverage of the Bandy World Championship 2015.--Skogsvandraren (talk) 10:43, 2 April 2015 (UTC)
