Like one kidney, can a person live on one lung?

[edit]

I learn from here person can live on one kidney, if so can a person live on one lung? Rizosome (talk) 14:15, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Your questions are essentially all easy to answer using Google and typing the exact question in. I typed "Can a person live with one lung" into Google and this was the first response. In the future, before asking a question, please put in a modicum of effort to find the answer yourself. If you did, it would prevent the accumulation of bad will you seem to be collecting as late. --Jayron32 14:18, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I am posting here to make sure I get answer technically. Not just answers like Yes or NO. Rizosome (talk) 14:32, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Did you read the explanation I linked to? --Jayron32 14:40, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

We have an article Pneumonectomy on the surgical removal of a lung. DuncanHill (talk) 14:42, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Just wanted to say, for most cases, the right-side lung has 3 sacs whereas the left-side lung has 2-sacs. I believe the right-side lung is about 50% more efficient than the left? 67.165.185.178 (talk) 14:48, 1 June 2021 (UTC).[reply]
No. "The total air volumes for the right and left lungs were 1035 +/− 280 ml and 864 +/− 315 ml,". There is a difference in volume (essentially to accommodate the volume of the heart) of much less than 560%, but that does not imply a difference in "efficiency" How are you defining lung efficiency? And your statement is only true about humans. For instance, mice have 4 right lobes and 1 left lobe. Fgf10 (talk) 15:25, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, glad to know the left lung is more efficient than what I sought it out to be. But it looks like those numbers for lung size mL were the results of 11 males, for that study. It looks like our Wikipedia article on lungs does not have such a factoid. 67.165.185.178 (talk) 15:35, 1 June 2021 (UTC).[reply]
One example is John Wayne, who had his left lung removed due to lung cancer, and lived a dozen years with one lung before expiring from stomach cancer. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots17:37, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
