Wikipedia:WikiProject AI Cleanup/AI images in non-AI contexts
Appearance
This is a list of disclosed AI generated images that are used in Wikipedia articles, for purposes other than explaining or demonstrating AI. These uses might need to be reviewed to make sure they are appropriate.
No on-wiki discussion or consensus has determined to what extent AI images are acceptable, except in the context of upscaling photographs. The purpose of this list is to document where and how AI images are being used, and for what reasons, if any, that they were kept in or removed from articles.

[edit]-
Arcturians (New Age)
Removed, article had already been sufficiently illustrated by NASA image of star system. -
Conspiracy theories about the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season
Kept, as a real example of an AI-generated image that spread in the aftermath of a hurricane. -
Flavorless candy
Removed, as a misrepresentation of a real object that could be photographed. An anonymous editor offered to provide a real photo but had difficulty navigating Commons. -
Silurian hypothesis
Removed, the image's use of the unrelated Doctor Who monsters of the same name was considered confusing. -
Springfield, Ohio, cat-eating hoax
Kept, an image produced and shared by U.S. elected officials. Discussed on talk page. -
Twin paradox
Removed, as being too filled with distracting science fiction elements. Discussed on talk page.
2023
[edit]-
Chemotactic drug-targeting
Removed, the concept being explained does not make sense to have an artist rendition. -
Chemotactic drug-targeting
Removed, the value/accuracy of an artist rendition of the concept is not clear. -
Chemotactic drug-targeting
Removed, the concept being explained does not make sense to have an artist rendition. -
Darul Uloom Deoband
Removed, the image contributes little to the article, could be mistaken for a contemporary artwork, and is anatomically incorrect. -
Listenbourg
Kept, the image shows how AI has been used to depict the fictional country of Listenbourg (as part of a running internet joke) and is itself reliably sourced. -
Pastoral science fiction
Removed, the image is not an appropriate depiction of the subject and only vaguely resembles a landscape.
