The ruins of Rudelsburg, an old hill castle, stand on the eastern bank of the River Saale on a rocky hill ridge made of muschelkalk, about 85 metres over the river and above the village of Saaleck in the borough of Bad Kösen in the county of Burgenlandkreis in Saxony-Anhalt. Built in the High Middle Ages by the Bishop of Naumburg it served to protect trading routes such as the Via Regia that ran through the Saale valley.
