Wikipedia:WikiProject Psychology/List of Personality Theories

I would like to create a relatively "complete" list of well known and/or "frequently" used personality theories. I'd like to make this a navbox, or "List of..." page, eventually. I'm making this as a project subpage as it doesn't belong in wikipedia main at this point in its development (and will go unnoticed to this WikiProject community as a personal subpage).

Pulling some introductory material from [[1]], [2], etc..., as well as what I can recall off the top of my head about the subject:

Typological theories

[edit]

Position/Situational-based theories

[edit]
  • Birth order (ie. Alfred Adler
  • Belbin Team Roles (Primarily action based)
  • Blood type theory (as blood type is used to describe personality)
  • Richard Herrnstein's extension of B.F. Skinner's hypotheses

Other

[edit]
  • Enneagram of Personality (Primarily motivation/fixation based) - (circumplex)
  • Jung's Psychological types
  • Ptypes personality types (yes, Dave Kelly is an independent researcher, but he has been referenced in at least one book IIRC, and has been referenced all over the place online - he exists and makes an impact with his work, from my limited perspective, whether it's enough to be put in wikipedia is a question others can answer)
  • Benxiger's Brain Type theory (??)
  • The 4 (or 5) Humours/Temperaments
  • Murray's Needs
  • Type A/B theory
  • Coping mechanisms (ie. Heinz Kohut)
  • Karen Horney's Theory of Neurosis

Archetype-based theories

[edit]

Aspect-based theories

[edit]

(Aspects differing from factors in the granularity and assignment of what's relevant)

  • Astrology
  • Freud's Ego, superego and id, and psychosexual stages and fixations

Factor-based theories

[edit]
  • Big 5 (with hypothetical "types")

The psychological aspects of Chinese "5 Element theory"

  • Eysenck's 3-factor model
  • DISC (circumplex)
  • RIASEC (circumplex)
  • Cattell's 16 primary personality factors and 5 secondary factors

Gordon Allport's traits

Jungian derivatives

[edit]
  • Myers-Briggs Type theory (has a heavy "type" basis as well)
  • Socionics
  • Keirsey's personality types

Enneagram "derivatives"

[edit]
  • Spiral Dynamics ???

Cognitive deliniations

[edit]

(may not be "personality theories" per se, but have many parallels. Probably falls under Wikipedia:NOR ["Original" synthesis])

  • Guilford's "Structure of Intellect" model

Unsorted

[edit]
  • Occupational Personality Questionnaire (A derivative maybe?) - probably a "Position/Situational-based theory"
  • PRISM (David Sharpley) - probably a "Position/Situational-based theory" - a derivative of various works as stated here: [3]
  • Graphology
  • Phrenology
  • Anton Kepinsky's information metabolism theory

Still need to integrate Personality psychology#Cognitive theories, Personality psychology#Humanistic theories, and Personality psychology#Biopsychological theories, as well as everything I've forgotten or don't know about.
