Ideas[edit]

This is the space for adding ideas of how the Barbour article or the rent strikes section can be improved. Feel free to add your own thoughts. Flourbomb (talk) 11:44, 24 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

There is no Wikipedia page for the 'Increase of Rent and Mortgage Interest (War Restrictions) Act 1915' which is that Barbour and the Glasgow rent strike forced out of the government. We could look at creating that page. I've asked my MP to see if we can get a copy of that Act from the HoC Library. At the end of WW1 the act was mentioned in a question and recorded in Hansard.[1] Flourbomb (talk) 12:02, 26 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Rent Control/Regulation in Scotland[edit]

Hi, I was just been having a look at Wikipedia articles about rent in the UK, and this is what I've found:

There are two pages on Rent Control, one for England and Wales, and one for Scotland. Both are rather dense to the lay reader, and replete with perhaps a little too much detail. They were originally written by George Murray (retired Chief Rent Officer for Scotland) and Selwyn Hardy (retired Chief Rent Officer for The Cities of London and Westminster and editor of the Journal of the Institute of Rent Officers), and contributed to Wikipedia in 2011 by Hardy, Mortal8. In the talk page for the Scotland page Hardy is open about the text having originally been written as part of a training manual for Rent Officers by himself and Murray. Both of these pages mention the Increase of Rent and Mortgage Interest (War Restrictions) Act 1915, and they are available through the following links:

Rent control in Scotland - (52 edits since 2011)

History of Rent Control in England and Wales - (86 edits sine 2011)

The page Rent regulation in England and Wales (16 edits since 2014) was created by Wikidea in 2014. This page really only discusses acts and regulations, and is more readable. The History of Rent Control in England and Wales is the Main Page, and this Regulation page links back to the History. The Regulation page also mentions the Increase of Rent and Mortgage Interest (War Restrictions) Act 1915.

There is no Rent Regulation in Scotland page.

If anyone's interested, there might be some scope for tidying this up a bit; although perhaps not on the day of the editathon.
