How do you tell what aspect ratio your computer has? --Malkinann (talk) 00:15, 30 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Divide the first number of your resolution by the second one. For example, if your resolution is 1280x1024, divide 1280 by 1024 and you'll get 1.25 (5:4 aspect ratio).
Can't this be determined with Javascript? Louis Waweru  Talk  00:21, 30 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Web servers can collect this resolution given the necessary software and configuration. Why can't Wikipedia do it? RedWolf (talk) 00:24, 30 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with the above users. It's kind of a pain trying to get everyone to edit the page to put their resolution, don't you think? Markpalloni (talk) 00:25, 30 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This costs no resources, while if we don't have the 'necessary software and configuration' we'd have to obtain it; I'll ask the devs, but I don't think Wikipedia has that ability (else we would have done it earlier). Again, this isn't meant to be a foolproof, final-word approach, but just to gain an idea. Master of Puppets Call me MoP! :D 00:35, 30 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I understand. It's not a bad idea, but it could be better. However, there aren't that many people participating, which means that you wouldn't really need a big system (I'm talking about overflow). So in this instance, you're right about using this method. Markpalloni (talk) 01:04, 30 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
