Altho I try to be present at as many NYC editahons as possible--especially those dealing with scientists, I have not found an effective way of doing so with the ones we have had to hold online. My role is usually checking that the subjects are well chosen, and, if possible, looking at the finished work before it gets submitted. I can't figure out a way of doing this online with the necessary tact and positive approach. Other experienced NYC editors do similarly in their fields

In those NYC editing sesions held live in person, almost 95% of all articles submitted have proven acceptable; this is considerably higher than most similar US sessions. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be true on line.

This is likely to be an example: two have already been deleted, and about half the others quite probably will be, unless they are rewritten to focus more on the actual notability snd avoid extraneous and minor material--and some of them seem to have no chance of making the notability standard in any event. . . The most striking is the one on Christopher Alexander, who is definitely notable -- but the work that has made him notable is not even mentioned. (I will add it when I have a chance).

Zoom meetings can work, by bringing in people from outside the area;, an I would encourage them to continue at least occasionally once we are able to meet in person again. Online editathons seem to be less successful, and I hope we discontinue them as soon as is practical. There is of course the possibility of developing a format that might work better, but we haven't found one so far. DGG ( talk ) 19:04, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
