Editors that aren't here to edit?[edit]

Not everyone who wants to contribute to Wikipedia is primarily interested in writing or editing articles is a weird statement to make. I suppose it's true, but the people that fall into that camp are going to be difficult to coerce into the article space through the use of non-article space contests. There has been some discussion about reevaluating WP:NOTSOCIALNETWORK, but that discussion is better had there. Some folks have said that the reason we don't have as many editors as we used to is that all the big important stuff has already been written and now it's a lot of current events upkeep and maintenance that isn't as fun and important-feeling. Most relevant to this essay, though, contests that don't directly improve the quality of articles take away time from volunteers that might have better used it to work on articles. Behind-the-scenes work can be valuable, but I get what you're saying. I'm afraid that a userspace-focused contest might cause blocks due to the last point listed at WP:NOTHERE. ObserveOwl (chit-chatmy doings) 18:37, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Reconrabbit I was referring to template editors. 9t5 (talk) 05:08, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
