Proposed update from a database

Thanks to all the contributors to this initiative. Since the project begining on 1st May 2024, about 128 revenue village wikidata items were updated with new coordinates. Some people have contributed to hamlet wikidata items as well which was not counted as the focus is on revenue villages. Through discussions on OSM Andhra Pradesh, we are able to locate a dataset from government sources, which has data for 12591 (panchayats), which can be useful to speed up this work. I have analysed that dataset for Bapatla district and found the location data to be on residential areas in 95% of the cases. I also found that AP state GIS portal does not have proper location for some of our villages and the panchayat headquarters data is actually tagged with census village location, which is not on residential areas in several cases. So I propose to use QuickStatements or Openrefine tool to edit wikidata to update the coordinate claim, for which the data is still blank. Here is a summary after the update from a database. There are 10565 panchayats traceable to unique census villages out of 12591 panchayats in all. Thus there are 2026 panchyats which are not census villages. I have added coordinates for 7589 villages, taking the total census villages with coordinates on Wikidata to 10497. I think we have utilised the database to the maximum extent. Now contributors can try to manually add coordinates to the remaining census villages of 5293 on Wikidata. At least half of these are going to be from Alluri Sitharamaraju district, which consists of thinly populated villages. Please share your experience and doubts as you work.
