Collaboration of the fortnight
Anyone wishing to vote for Frank Hadden for collaboration of the fortnight please do so here. These collaborations seem to last much longer then a fortnight and aren't getting the suppose they probably need. Although maybe in the case of NA4 thats because there isn't that much info around on it? Anyway please vote or add a nomination. - Shudda talk 03:13, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

Project page
Hey, I've redone the main project page here. It's pretty much identical except that each section is a separate page thats collated onto the main project page. So it's kinda modular. The reason I think this would be an improvement over the existing format is that it'll allow it to be more easily updated (kept up to date). For example the news section and a to do list. Hamedog has had a look at it and thinks it's great (thought I'd get his opinion first as he created the current project page). Any comments? Suggestions? Should it replace the current page? - Shudda talk 23:00, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

Articles for Irish provincial teams
Currently there are no separate articles for the Leinster, Ulster, Connacht and Munster teams; rather, each team is included on the article for the relevant branch of the Irish Rugby Football Union (ie Leinster Rugby, Ulster Rugby, Connacht Rugby and Munster Rugby. Would it be neater to move the team information into separate articles? --Kwekubo 15:52, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
- Not a member of the project but, as per my comment on Northern Irish Wikis' notice board, I agree that this seems the logical thing to do. --Mal 03:52, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Wikipedia Day Awards
Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 19:31, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Announcement template
I have created an announcement template: {{WPRU Announcements}} It is displayed on the main project page, please add it to your user pages to keep up with news of the project, as well as tasks. Please add to and maintain the template as well. - Shudda talk 22:11, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
To my knowledge this seems to identical to the Nations Cup (only with a different team line-up). As far as I can tell the tournament as described on this page was never played and I will put it up for deletion unless anybody knows better.GordyB 17:34, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
- Merge then Redirect to Nations Cup. --Bob 07:58, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
- THere's nothing on the Rainbow cup page that would really improve the Nations Cup article. I've put it up for deletion. [1]GordyB 21:04, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
Naming Conventions
Should all the union and federation articles be renamed to their English translations? Such as the FFR becomes the French Rugby Federation or similar? I ask as naming conventions currently specify that a title be in English if a translation exists. The FFF is already in English. Opinions? --Bob 07:58, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
- Even more bizarrely, the article I wrote on the Romanian Rugby Foundation was moved to the Romanian equivalent title even though the RRF only use the Romanian name in Romania and are registered with the IRB under their English name.GordyB 23:18, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
Will move all to official English titles as used by the IRB. --Bob 17:18, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

A peer review department has been created. People can have a look here. It's an alternative to using the generic peer review process. two millionth Wikipedia article
I dunno about you guys, but I have been thinking for sometime; one of us should make the two millionth article on en wikipedia. So it the next couple of months, rather than creating articles, store them in word or notepad and wait until the counter is around 1,999,000. That last thousand is going to go fast so we need to start emailing each other articles. This way people don't have to get up at 2 am or something - someone else in another time zone can do it by opening up several tabs on firefox.
Why should we do this? Get publicity, attract more editors and get a free featured article - heaps of people will edit it in it's first week.
Summary of what to do:
- Store articles for future in notepad or word.
- Watch the article counter
- Send articles to other WP:RU members
- Open 10 or so firefox tabs and click save all at once.
- Try and hit 2,000,000.
What do you guys think?--HamedogTalk|@ 13:43, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
- It may be worth a shot, there are plenty of requested articles on the open tasks template. - Shudda talk 05:39, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
Crusaders peer review
Hi, I've requested a peer review for Crusaders. Could everyone please take a look and help out? I'm trying to get the article up to Featured Article standard, and would like any feedback I can get. You can add any comments here. Thanks a lot! - Shudda talk 03:25, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
All Black Number
I think its about time we started adding All Blacks to their article or their infobox because then it would be easier to tag them. There number i.e the All Black Id is important and we can add it and also link it to the List of All Blacks for easier reference..thanx..Cometstyles
- Thats a pretty good idea, someone will have to player around with the {{Rugger}} template to do it though. - Shudda talk 08:12, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
Easy enough... just tell me what you want exactly. What do you want to link to etc. --Bob 18:26, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
- I actually don't know what would link, but an entry stating their All Black number could be added. - Shudda talk 21:34, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
Added an option using the parameter allblack. Please take a gander at Todd Blackadder. Does this satisfy the requirement? --Bob 01:36, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
- It does..I tried it on Dan Carter and it worked perfectly..Good Job..I wanted to do this be4 but didnt knw how 2..thanx.Cometstyles talk
- But there is a minor Problem..The all black numbers arent the same 4 Example Jeff Wilson his allblack number is 935 but his Allblack ID is 973..Allblacks.com should solve this problem..Cometstyles talk
- I think the id is more an alphabetical thing, it's not related to their All Black number. Wilson starting with W means his id is high. - Shudda talk 02:49, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
I have sent off an email to that website inquiring about this discrepency. I have also introduced a new parameter to cope with this change. Please see Jeff Wilson (sportsman) for an example. --Bob 18:04, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
- Hey, I like that eh. Looks really good, I think that the id isn't supposed to correspond with their AB number. Probably when the database was created they were given an id that matched their names alphabetically. Then when players have been added to it it's been their AB number (Andrew Ellis' number is 1068, where as Bunny Abbott's is 130, yet his id is 1). Make sense? - Shudda talk 22:01, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
- Yes that was the problem i was talking about and Iam thankful to Bob 4 solvin this problem..thanxø~Cometstyles~ø(talk)

Recent fixture, and Upcoming fixtures lists
It's clear that most of the tier one national rugby union teams have these lists included in their articles. Whilst we were getting All Blacks through FA, including it's peer-review, there was a consensus reached that these lists were not appropriate. This is mentioned on the All Blacks talk page here. It's also discussed in the All Blacks peer review here (note it's archived, don't add comments!). Was wondering if we should removed all these lists from the rugby union team articles? If you agree, please add any comments of support. I'll give it a week, if a reasonably clear consensus has been reached we can make it part of the "WP:RU Style Guide". - Shudda talk 00:37, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
- I can see why people add them, they want to give publicity to something they believe in. I have never liked them much. I think, it is better to create a separate article 'forthcoming fixtures' and link to it. We have articles on sporting events e.g. Tri nations which list games to be played so I don't see why a full fixture list should not be notable.GordyB 22:55, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
- Agreed. --Bob 22:56, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
- Yup..New Article on 2007 rugby union fixtures and set it up alphabetically for all countries or atleast the top 20 countries that would be playing internationals throughout 2007 excluding the 2007 Rugby World Cup..ø~Cometstyles~ø(talk)
- The problem with having an article of forthcoming fixtures is really the same. There is a template {{Rugby06}} and {{Rugby07}} which does the same thing but isn't such blatant advertising as we have seen. I think having these is much better then another article that would need to be updated very regularly. - Shudda talk 23:37, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
- Hmm you havent seen the 2007 Six Nations Championship and the 2007 Super 14 have you..It gets updated every time a match is being played and no one is complaining. What I meant when I said about the forthcoming fixturess that is individual matches that would be played for example Ireland playing Italy which doesnt relate to Tournaments being played which the {{Rugby06}} and {{Rugby07}} shows--Cometstyles 23:47, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah thats true, but why duplicate the information? The {{Rugby07}} template has links to both of those articles. If one wanted to read them they could. Another alternative would be to have an article 2007 in Rugby union, that could then summarise each of the main tournaments, with links to their major articles? I certainly think having "recent fixtures" is a bad idea, especially as what is recent changes, and the results will just end up being removed anyway. One off games could be included in articles such as 2006 Autumn internationals (which should be renamed btw, I hate when people call them that, it's not called that in the southern hemisphere!!) - see {{Rugby06}} Basically, what I'm saying is why not have this info all in one spot. Rather then repeated in each teams article, which adds nothing of value to it! - Shudda talk 00:06, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

- Well, unless there are any objections I'm going to change the Project's Style Guide to contain a sentence stating that fixture lists should not be included in team articles. Instead either a template such as {{Rugby07}} should be included. Any objections to this? - Shudda talk 23:47, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
- As there are no objections I'll do this soon. - Shudda talk 05:20, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
Requested Articles
You may have noticed I added a few articles to the list of requested articles. I hope it's not too many, but there's a few players on there, like Darren Daniel and Morgan Stoddart, who I believe really deserve their own articles given the season they're having so far PeeJay 00:35, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
- No thats fine! The announcements template is for anyone to edit. You may want to add any articles you want created to Wikipedia:WikiProject Rugby union/Requests as well. The announcement template only has a few of the requested articles, the main requests page has many more. - Shudda talk 00:43, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
6 Nations GA nomination
I have added some information (2 sections) to the six nations article, and believe that, even before that, it is enough for GA status. However, my knoowledge of past Rugby is a little patchy, and names of most record holders escape me. Please can somebody clean the record section up, so it will be worthy of GA status. Cheers. к1иgf1$н£я5ω1fт 19:36, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
- It needs more history and other updates. A section on 'Culture' or something is needed as well. Cvene64 03:29, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
- I recommend finding some more references as well. - Shudda talk 23:48, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
We should make this the next collab, it is so short for a Tier 1 team. It really really needs work. Cvene64 03:30, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
- I would support it's nomination. - Shudda talk 04:36, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
- It's difficult to find much on the internet about Italian rugby, much of the history section is a translation of the Italian wiki page.GordyB 15:50, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah that is true. But we can look at results etc and at least expand the history section. We can start a section on home grounds; what stadia is used, what is used during the 6N, what of the future etc. We write about their RWC efforts, maybe create a section on their colours/etc. We need to put in a current squad as well. There is heaps we can work on to improve it. Cvene64 02:04, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

The French and Irish team pages are almost as bad. Also candidates for any future collaborations IMO.GordyB 14:56, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
{{Persondata}}
I was thinking that perhaps we should start including {{Persondata}} in rugby union bios that we create. Comments? --Bob 20:29, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
Just created a new template for use on Union/Federation articles. I have implemented it on French Rugby Federation as an example. Any suggestions as to stuff missed, or can I start adding this across the board? --Bob 02:23, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
- It looks good. - Shudda talk 02:33, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
- It is now on all tier 1 and tier 2 unions --Bob 00:05, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
Template Query
I have just noticed that some templates for international teams use their national flag ( Australia) whereas some use the rugby boards logo ( Ireland). Which is preferable, and surely all should match? Cheers к1иgf1$н£я5ω1fт 16:44, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
Ireland is a special case being that it represents the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, it would therefore be inappropriate to use the national flag of the Republic of Ireland. Other than that instance, I can't think of another example of a logo being used in place of a national flag.GordyB 18:20, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
OK, so I'm assuming we should keep the flags for the others? к1иgf1$н£я5ω1fт 10:24, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
- I can't think of another case where using the national flag would cause trouble. There are some teams e.g. Lions and Pacifika that don't represent a single state but we've never needed a flag or icon to represent them.GordyB15:54, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Rugger template
Hey, there seem to be a lot of biography articles that do not use the {{rugger}} template. I think the template does very well and should be included in any biographies about rugby players (either code). Could people please start adding articles to the Project To Do list? Maybe we can get an improvement drive going to try and incorporate {{rugger}} all the rugby union biographies? I don't mind setting this up, but would like to know if it'll have any support first. - Shudda talk 21:42, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
