Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by 1997kB (talk | contribs) at 14:38, 7 February 2019 (→‎G3n10z → Kataklism: nd). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Changing username/Simple
This page is a forum in which users can request, and global renamers (including stewards) can consider and carry out, requests to rename accounts to usernames that are not yet taken on any Wikimedia project. While global renamers carry out renames, other users (including bots) help by "clerking" the mechanics of this process. If you wish to help as a clerk, please read the linked page carefully.

Instructions
For help 'vanishing' from Wikipedia,
please see courtesy vanishing.

Once you have decided on the name you would like:

  1. Read this page first. You must be aware of, and understand, all of that information before requesting a username change
  2. Check to make sure this username is not already in use. Do this by searching for the name here. If the name appears in the results, even if on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
  3. Do not create an account under the new name or move/redirect your userpages. We'll do that for you.
  4. Log in with your present username in order to place your request. Renames will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Click here to place your request.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=
    • Do not change anything after CURRENT=
  6. Make sure that you have spelt your desired name correctly, including capitalization and spacing. Save the page. If your request is submitted malformed, please remedy it according to this page.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any questions that may arise regarding your request. Please be patient. It may take a few days for your request to be completed. If you do not answer any questions, your request may be declined due to no response.
  8. Once your request has been completed, please do not remove or change your request. It will be archived automatically by a bot.
  • Requests that do not adhere to these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

Important Notes After you are renamed...
  • Due to technical limitations, usernames may not start with a lowercase letter. However, you may use the template {{lowercase title}} on your user and user talk pages, and change your signature to reflect your preference.
  • Underscores and spaces are considered identical by the MediaWiki software.
  • Use of a company, organization, group, website, or product name as a username is prohibited by the username policy.
  • Please understand the implications of using your real name before requesting a name change to it.
  • ... your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited.
  • ... your userpage and any subpages will be moved to the new name automatically. Please do not attempt to move them yourself.
  • ... links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be left behind to your new userpage.
  • ... your request will be automatically moved to the archives in the interest of transparency.

Erdiahmet → sucuboy

@Erdiahmet: Account Sucuboy was created after this request. If this is you, there is no need to rename. Simply stop using the old account and use the new account. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 07:16, 27 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
 Not done No response. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 02:14, 4 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Soikotsum128 → Soikot Hasan

Renamer note: Please pick a new name; the username you have requested has already been taken. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 12:49, 29 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
 Not done No response. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 13:17, 6 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

KurtRoy69 → TinyNoteAudio

Renamer note: I noticed that "Tiny Note Audio" is the name of a company or website, according to a Google search. Are you affiliated with this company? If you are, please note that usernames cannot be the name of a company or organization, as they are considered to be promotional in nature. See Username policy § Promotional names. If you are not, feel free to just let me know below. Thanks, —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 19:37, 1 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Vandewoestijne → Office_Edits

Renamer note: The requested username may classify as an inappropriate username under the username policy because it may suggest that your account is affiliated with (and makes edits on behalf of) the Wikimedia Foundation. Please pick a new name. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 19:38, 1 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Jersey City Riot → I Love to Hate You

I do not see how my username violates any of the provisions on inappropriate usernames: no one should be offended; it is not personal; it is not intended to provoke an emotional reaction; and it shows no clear attempt to disrupt Wikipedia. I do not see how it can bother anyone considering the generic and unremarkable nature of a phrase like "I Love to Hate You". Jersey City Riot (talk) 21:48, 2 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Renamer note: The requested username definitely seems problematic, as other editors may find it offensive or unsuitable for a project like Wikipedia, and they may drag you to WP:RFCN over it. My suggestion is to just post at RFCN and see what the community thinks about that name first before renaming. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 02:22, 4 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
After a quick investigation, I came across I love to hate you, which was blocked by JLaTondre back in 2006. (Pinging since you're the blocking admin) —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 02:27, 4 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A lonely day

Not done @A lonely day: It looks like you are trying to delete your account, which isn't possible. Although you can request a rename to random strings if you have no plans using this account in future. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 03:09, 5 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

SkynetKami → Rising Rain

@SkynetKami: Looks like you are confused between usernames and article names. Well in order to create article it's not necessary to have username as article name. You can create article with the name you want using article wizard. Also if you looking for a account rename please choose another username since it's the same as the article you are working. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 14:47, 6 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@1997kB: As stated in the request, the intention is to change my username from SkynetKami to Rising Rain, due to the user page title being set to the name of the the user, which to my knowledge is unalterable. I was not aware that it is against Wikipedia policy to set one's username as the title of one's user page. Regardless, this bears no relevance as any article I create independent of my user page on the intended topic is sure to violate Wikipedia policy and face immediate deletion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SkynetKami (talkcontribs) 23:18, 6 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

مرتضی شرافتی → Mortie

Not done @مرتضی شرافتی: Almost all of your editing is at Persian Wikipedia. You have made few edits on English Wikipedia, and none at all for almost 8 years, apart from this rename request. There have sometimes been problems when editors have requested user name changes on a wiki other than where they mostly edit, and so you should request a rename on Persian Wikipedia, or if that is not possible you can ask for a rename at meta::Steward requests/Username changes. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 11:35, 6 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@JamesBWatson: I don't believe we have any issues with users who primarily edit from other projects from requesting username changes here. That being said, the main issue with this request is that the requested username, Mortie, is already taken. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 13:16, 6 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@K6ka: There certainly have been problems with users who primarily edit from other projects from requesting username changes here, as has been discussed on the global renamers mailing list, and renamers have been asked to refer editors making such requests to their home wiki or to meta, which is what I have done. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 13:38, 6 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The reason people request here is that this page can be easily found with just a Google search and edits of this specific user doesn't show any problem even on Persian wiki, so I guess we can process such requests. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 13:45, 6 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Џ → The brown pill

Why exactly do you like it more? Are you sure you will want to stick with your new name? --Emir of Wikipedia (talk) 22:23, 5 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Easier for others to type without copy and pasting. Џ 22:25, 5 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Џ: The chosen username is too similar to existing usernames: Isit-in and Isitin. Please choose another user name to change to. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 11:17, 6 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
