Smithsonian Folkways[edit]

At this point, Wikipedia has at least THREE articles on the same subject: Smithsonian Folkways Recordings, Folkways Records, and the brand-new Smithsonian folkways records. As an aside, PLEASE check variant names and spellings (including capitalization) before creating new articles.

That said, there can be only one article, with the other titles redirecting to that page. Please go to Talk:Smithsonian Folkways Recordings for the discussion on what to keep, merge, or expunge. Note that Smithsonian Folkways Recordings appears to have an iffy copyright status. --Calton | Talk 02:05, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Username, etc[edit]

I'm a big fan of Folkways Records and the work that they do. This is nothing personal against you or them. But Wikipedia does not allow for corporate accounts. You should only be using an account on your own behalf, one which is not shared with others, even in the same office. Wikipedia:Username policy#Company/group names. It would be better if you changed your name to something less corporate sounding to avoid confusion. Wikipedia:Changing username. Also, please avoid activities that would appear to promote Folkways. Finally, if you're adding lists, the standard convention on Wikipedia is to make them chronological, oldest to newest. Please let me know if you have any questions. ·:· Will Beback ·:· 21:01, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It would help a lot if you would be explicit on your user page as to whether you are simply a fan of Folkways & Moe Asch, an employee of Smithsonian Folkways, or what. The current ambiguous state of affairs is almost certain to be a problem. If you are connected with the company and have legal ability to grant rights to copyrighted images, for example, we can verify your identity through them, and that becomes very useful. Conversely, if you are connected with the company, it would probably be better to offer proposed article additions about Folkways artists on article talk pages, and let someone with no economic interest in the matter make the judgement of which belong in the articles. On the other hand, if you are not affiliated with them, then this is probably a poorly chosen user name. - Jmabel | Talk 21:42, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Ceri Rhys Matthews[edit]

The article Ceri Rhys Matthews has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable musician. Fails MUSIC

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. A tag has been placed on Ceri Rhys Matthews requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you.
