Heirlooms & Heritage artist from Singapore

My name is Marcus Lim, and I'm a professional historian painter devoted to researching and painting themes of local history and heritage. I work primarily with oils and charcoal as my medium.

I grew up at a time of great change in our social environment, witnessing the fading of all things old, yet dear to us Singaporeans. I knew I had to do something with my talent that God has given me, and in 2001 I heeded my calling. For many years, I've given my time and committment, to helping local famillies and organizations to "create" oil paintings that help them to retain a piece of heritage for themselves.

My contributions

[edit]

In 2006, I was honored by the opportunity to spend a year to work on a painting of Venerable Ho Yuen Hoe as a tribute to her life of sacrifice and compassion to the less fortunate — and receiving greater honor to having His Excellency, President S.R. Nathan to unveil it at the charity ceremony in 2007.

In August 2006, The Asian Geographic (No. 37 Issue 4/2006) have published my series of Samsui women paintings, as part of their feature article on these magnificent women. It was the first time that stories of these hardworking women who have made a difference in our little country, have been made known to a greater group of heritage lovers around the region. And I am happy to know that I have contributed to that.

In November 2008, I had the opportunity to work on the portrait of Ms Hedwig Anuar, a women's rights activist and founding director of the National Library. This "secret little project" with the help from the President and the members of AWARE, was revealed on her 80th birthday party that was organized by the society, and in honour for her years' of contribution to the women of the Singapore society.

I now extend myself to contributing more on Wikipedia, especially to researching on the work and lives of talented local artists and art supporters who have committed their lives to their work but relatively unknown by the people of our society. I hope to create an awareness for these gifted souls on Wiki platform, and to learn from all fellow SGpedians, who have already been here and contributing before me.

Thank you.
