The Wikipedia Library

This page is for collecting applications for volunteers to help coordinate various elements of The Wikipedia Library. Coordinators play a key part in the Library – they are essential to helping editors get access to sources. Roles include:

  • Account coordinator: help manage a specific donation by screening applicants, distributing accounts, and troubleshoot any issues
  • Outreach coordinator: connect to university libraries, archives, and other GLAM institutions
  • Partner coordinator: contacts potential publisher partners to ask for donations
  • Research coordinator: run reference services onwiki to help people do research and get answers
  • Technical coordinator: advise on tools and templates to support research and access
  • Communications coordinator: share stories on social media, blogs, mailing lists, and newsletters

If you think you are a potential coordinator: please create a new section for yourself below these questions to provide your answers. Previous applications are in the archive.

Application questions

  1. How long have you been on Wikipedia, and what areas are you active in?
  2. What languages are you comfortable communicating in? Are you active on any non-English Wikipedias or other Wikimedia projects?
  3. Why do you want to volunteer with The Wikipedia Library? What role would you like to play?

Wikipedia Library Coordinators handle other editors' personal information at times; because of this all Coordinators sign a standard confidentiality agreement with the Wikimedia Foundation that includes your real name. Are you comfortable with this? If so, please continue on and tell us more about your background and interest in helping out!

TLSuda's Application

  • TLSuda
  1. I've been editing Wikipedia 9 years off and on, probably a total of 4-6 years of semi-regular editing. I'm an administrator, so most of my tasks are behind the scenes work. I do enjoy working in the file namespace and have a few articles I like to maintain regularly. I also help out at Good Article Review. I've had a subscription for Newspapers.com from TWL for just under a year.
  2. English is my native tongue. I can get by with little bits of French or Spanish, nothing major though.
  3. I've been getting hyper involved with local libraries and seeing the vast amount of resources that go unused in this world disappoints me. I'd like to help out where you need me the most, but I feel my skillset would be best suited to Account Coordinator, Partner Coordinator, or Outreach Coordinator.

As for everything else, I have no problem identifying myself to the WMF. My username is my real name, and I've identified to them before (with evidence). In my daily life, as it relates to my skillset, I am a technology specialist for a school system as well as a member on the board of trustees of our local library. I would like to see more people use these wonderful resources that are donated to this project. Cheers, TLSuda (talk) 11:50, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • I've been active at en.wikipedia for nearly 9 years (since August 2006). I am a member of the WikiProject Anime and manga Magazine Archive as well as the WikiProject Video Games Reference Library, I am one of the lead editors of the WikiProject Video Games Newsletter, and I have been active at the WikiProject Video Games Reliable Source guideline page and the Help desk.
  • I am a native English speaker and I am somewhat comfortable communicating in French and Hungarian. I have also translated successfully from Japanese and Russian into English in the past. I only have a handful of edits at other Wikipedia sister projects.
  • I'm volunteering because I am an off-wiki advocate for the democratization of knowledge via increased access to information. I hold an MSIS degree, I have worked at numerous GLAM-ish places (a museum, an herbarium, and several libraries) in the past, and I would like to be more involved in these activities on-wiki. I would be happy to serve as an Account coordinator, Outreach coordinator, Research coordinator, or Communications coordinator.

  • I've been active since 2008 in several areas, including creating articles, adding references, categories, images, and editing. I am particularly proud of my work in getting Gillian Welch to good article status, with ~100 references.
  • I only know English and the English Wikipedia
  • I just completed a Masters in Library Science, I am have a web development background and a passion for research and technology. I guess a technical role would be best. I'm particularly interested in research, references, and anything to do with linked data.

Paulscrawl

  • I have edited Wikipedia for over 11 years now, generally adding academic citations to articles I come across in my wide reading in comparative literature, art history, history of religions, social sciences, computer science, and the history and philosophy of the sciences. I have provided authoritative sources in answer to many questions posed to the Humanities Reference Desk. AI@50 was one of my first substantive contributions, and I also was an active editor of articles related to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
  • I read and write English with native fluency. I have several years of professional experience using the MediaWiki platform to support over a thousand internal business clients with encyclopedic business content of my own creation, all hyperlinked to email a support desk, where my colleagues and I provided short, factual, and action-oriented emails that rarely required any followup responses. I developed the custom MediaWiki platform, content, and email templates to streamline the one-email-does-it support process.
  • The Wikipedia Library is one of the most exciting developments of open access I have seen in years. I would like to help share these resources as a Wikipedia Library Research Coordinator.

  • I am a native Oriya speaker and I am comfortable communicating in English and Hindi. I handles the social media account of Wiki Loves Food and Odia Wikipedia.
  • I have engaged many contributors to Odia Wikipedia and have organised workshops and editathons. I wants to involve young mass towards the Wikimedia movement to spread awareness and attract GLAM initiatives in my state. I would like to play any role from these three; Account coordinator or Outreach coordinator or Communications coordinator
