University Alliance was formed in 2006, adopting the name in 2007.

The purpose of the consortium is to bring together universities with government and business to create innovative solutions to social and economic challenges. It is a policy centre delivering evidence-based policy and research in order to improve higher education policy, to benefit the economy and society.[1]
