History
906 was created as a split from 616 on Sunday, March 19, 1961, as a flash-cut, with no official permissive dialing.
It is among the least populous area codes in North America, serving only about 320,000 people. Due to its low population density, it is not expected to be exhausted until well beyond 2050.[1]
