The Club ANZAC game is the name given to the annual Rugby league football match played on Anzac Day, 25 April, each year between the Sydney Roosters and St. George Illawarra Dragons.[citation needed]

Between 2009 until 2014, a second match was played, between the Melbourne Storm and the New Zealand Warriors in Melbourne. In 2015, to mark the 100th anniversary of the landings, five matches will be played, including the Roosters-Dragons match.

History of Club ANZAC game[edit]

The Roosters vs. Dragons Anzac Day match has taken place each year since the 2002 season. These games generally have crowd numbers of 20,000 - 30,000 attending each game, with a record of 40,752 attending the Dragons vs. Roosters game in 2013.[citation needed] The Sydney game is played at the Sydney Football Stadium, except in 2008 where it was played at ANZ Stadium. The player judged man-of-the-match in the Roosters vs. Dragons Club ANZAC game has been awarded the "Spirit of ANZAC" medal since 2009.[1]

From 2009 until 2014, a second Anzac Day match was played each year between the Melbourne Storm and the New Zealand Warriors in Melbourne.[1]

In 2015, to mark the 100th anniversary of the landings, five matches will take place. Melbourne will face the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles, the New Zealand Warriors will play the Gold Coast Titans, the Newcastle Knights will play the North Queensland Cowboys, the Brisbane Broncos will play the Parramatta Eels and the Dragons and Roosters will play.[2][3]

Television Rights[edit]

The Nine Network and Fox Sports have had coverage of the games. Most games are held on Fox Sports. The only games to be shown on the Nine Network are the Dragons-Roosters games in 2004 and 2010 (on a Sunday afternoon) and in 2013 (Thursday afternoon).[citation needed]
