Dada Life is a Swedish DJ duo from Stockholm. The duo of Olle Cornéer and Stefan Engblom was formed in 2006.[1]

Musical career

In 2010, Dada Life was voted #89 in DJ Magazine's annual Top 100 list of the most popular DJs. Dada Life's popularity grew over the next two years: in October 2011, they were voted #38 in DJ Magazine's Top 100, and #24 in 2012. Some of Dada's biggest hits to date include "Rolling Stones T-shirt", "Happy Violence", "Kick Out The Epic Motherf*cker", "Unleash the F*cking Dada", "White Noise / Red Meat", "Feed The Dada" and their remixes of "Dynasty" and "Llove" by Kaskade (feat. Haley), "Big Bad Wolf" by Duck Sauce, "Who Is Ready To Jump" by Chuckie, and "Prutataaa" by Afrojack and R3hab. Dada Life frequently headlines at North America's two largest electronic dance festivals, the Electric Daisy Carnival and Ultra Music Festival. At Electric Daisy Carnival 2011, Dada Life brought out a full marching band to perform their song "White Noise / Red Meat."[2]

On October 26, 2013, Dada Life broke the Guinness World Record for the world's largest pillow fight at a Dada Land Compound event at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago and had 3,813 participants.[3]

On July 19, 2015, Dada Life broke the Guinness World Record for the world's largest gathering of people dressed as fruit at Dada Land: The Voyage. The event was at San Manuel Ampitheater in Southern California and had 629 participants.[4]

Controversies

Riots

At a show at Avalon in Los Angeles in 2010, there were riots on the streets when more people showed up than the club could accommodate.

On November 23, 2013, Dada Life again were forced to cancel their Miami performance when fans broke down barricades and riot police shut down the show.

Dada Death

On 16 December 2014, Dada Life posted to their Twitter account that they had left a MacBook Pro and a pair of headphones on the subway.[5] On the same day Facebook,[6] Twitter[7] and SoundCloud[8] accounts were created with images of the pair's stolen MacBook Pro and taunts about the quality of their productions were made over several weeks.

On 13 January 2015, a post was made on the Dada Death Facebook account with a link to their SoundCloud, stating that "Tomorrow [they are] going to release the first of many gifts." The next day a tech house remix of an unreleased track that had featured on the Dada Life Instagram account[9] and their recent shows "Tonight We're Kids Again" was posted to the Dada Death SoundCloud account and subsequently removed.

Dada Life have stated on their Facebook account[10] that they were in talks with Stockholm's police and their lawyers and that they were going to rush the release of "Tonight We're Kids Again" to prevent the unofficial version from gathering more attention.

Some fans and bloggers have stated however that the "Dada Death" accounts are all part of a large marketing stunt for a possible new album or at least the single "Tonight We're Kids Again".[11]

The Rules of Dada

In October 2012, Dada Life released their second full-length album, The Rules of Dada. The album quickly reached #1 on the iTunes Dance charts and entered the top 10 in Canada and top 20 in the US.

In fall 2012, Dada Life embarked on a tour of the same name, visiting over 40 cities in the US and Canada, playing to over 100,000 fans and reportedly using more than 8,000 lbs of bananas and 3,000 bottles of champagne.

Dada Nation & Bananarchy

Prior to March 14, 2013, the duo Dada Life birthed a new nation called "Dada Land" which lays claim to any territory holding a Dada Compound event. As mentioned above, Dada Life petitioned the UN to be recognized as a sovereign nation with no avail. This act caught the attention of authorities in Sweden and on March 15, 2013, the duo's visas were seized at a Swedish airport. The conflict was eventually resolved but resulted in the duo missing planned events in Miami later that week.

On July 19, 2014 Dada Life debuted Dada Land: The Voyage, a mini-festival in San Bernardino, CA attended by over 10,000 fans where the duo arrived via hot air balloon[12]
