The geographical region of Fennoscandia within Northern Europe, comprising Norway, Sweden, Finland, and parts of Russia (mainly Karelia)

Fennoscandia (Finnish: Fennoskandia; Swedish: Fennoskandien; Norwegian: Fennoskandia; [Фенноскандия Fennoskandiya] Error: {{Lang-xx}}: text has italic markup (help)), or Fenno-Scandinavia, is a term for the geographical Nordic region comprising the Scandinavian Peninsula, Finland, Karelia, and the Kola Peninsula.[1] Thus the term usually covers the countries Finland, Norway and Sweden in their entireties.[2] It also includes the Murmansk Oblast, much of the Republic of Karelia and parts of northern Leningrad Oblast in Russia. Its name comes from the Latin words Fennia (Finland) and Scandia (Scandinavia).[3] The term was first used by the Finnish geologist Wilhelm Ramsay in 1900.[4]
