Irkutsky District (Russian: Ирку́тский райо́н) is an administrative district, one of the thirty-three in Irkutsk Oblast, Russia.[1] Municipally, it is incorporated as Irkutsky Municipal District.[8] The area of the district is 9,194 square kilometers (3,550 sq mi).[citation needed] Its administrative center is the city of Irkutsk[2] (which is not administratively a part of the district).[1] Population: 84,322 (2010 Russian census);[4] 59,850 (2002 Census);[10] 56,885 (1989 Soviet census).[11]
Administrative and municipal status
Within the framework of administrative divisions, Irkutsky District is one of the thirty-three in the oblast.[1] The city of Irkutsk serves as its administrative center,[2] despite being incorporated separately as an administrative unit with the status equal to that of the districts.[1]
As a municipal division, the district is incorporated as Irkutsky Municipal District.[8] The City of Irkutsk is incorporated separately from the district as Irkutsk Urban Okrug.[12]
