List of number-one dance singles of 2009 (U.S.)

The Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart ranks the best-performing singles in that category in the United States. The first number-one song of the year was claimed by English-American pop girl group The Pussycat Dolls with the song "I Hate This Part".[1] It remained at number one for an additional week, spending two weeks atop the chart in total.[2] Artists to achieve one number one on the chart throughout the course of 2009 were The Killers with "Human",[3] Donna Summer with "Fame (The Game)",[4] LeAnn Rimes with "What I Cannot Change",[5] Shontelle with "T-Shirt",[6] and Lily Allen with "The Fear".[7] Two artists achieved two number ones on the chart. American singer-songwriter Mariah Carey topped the chart twice with "I Stay in Love" from her eleventh studio album E=MC² (2008),[8] and with "Obsessed" from her twelfth studio album Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel (2009).[9]

French DJ David Guetta also topped the chart two times with "Sexy Bitch", a collaboration with Akon,[10] and with "When Love Takes Over", a collaboration with Kelly Rowland; "When Love Takes Over spent two consecutive weeks atop the chart,[11][12] and ranked at number one on the 2009 Hot Dance Club Songs year end chart.[13] The Pussycat Dolls and Kristine W both achieved three number one singles on the chart. In addition to "I Hate This Part", which peaked at number one for two consecutive weeks, The Pussycat Dolls also topped the chart with "Bottle Pop", a collaboration with Snoop Dogg,[14] and "Hush Hush", featuring Nicole Scherzinger.[15] Kristine W topped the chart with "Never",[16] "Love Is the Look",[17] and "Be Alright".[18] Beyoncé and Lady Gaga were the only artists to achieve at least four number one songs on the chart. The former topped the chart with "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)",[19] "Diva",[20] "Halo",[21] and "Sweet Dreams".[22] The latter topped the chart with the songs "Poker Face",[23] "LoveGame",[24] "Paparazzi",[25] and "Bad Romance".[26]
