Michael Glatze was co-founder of Young Gay America and a former advocate for gay rights. Glatze made headlines for publicly announcing he no longer identified as a homosexual, and denouncing homosexuality.

Biography

Glatze was born in Olympia, Washington, United States. His mother was a non-denominational Christian and his father was agnostic.[1] His father died of a heart condition when Glatze was age 13, and his mother died when he was 19.[2] Glatze earned a Bachelors degree from Dartmouth College where he majored in English Literature and Creative Writing, with a minor in Music.

While working at XY Magazine in San Francisco, Glatze met Benjie Nycum. The two would end up being boyfriends for 10 years.[3] They later co-founded their own publication, Young Gay America.[4] Glatze and Nycum coauthored the book "XY Survival Guide" (2000).[5]

Glatze turned toward Christianity after a health scare due to heart palpitations. Worried that he was affected by the same heart condition which claimed his father's life, he sought medical help. The palpitations turned out to be due to anemia, caused by Celiac disease.[6] Having faced the possibility of death, Glatze viewed theological issues in a new light. Through a personal journey of several years, Glatze's personal views of homosexuality changed.

Glatze has written two pieces about his change which appeared in conservative online media outlet WorldNetDaily.[7][8] He has also made headlines in other conservative as well as gay publications and blogs. Glatze was scheduled to appear on CNN's Paula Zahn Now in 2007, but backed out, saying that he prayed about it and decided not to appear, citing less than favorable reception from people in his speaking out on this topic.[3]

Glatze currently lives in Colorado, and was once a follower of Ted Haggard.
