Robocar Poli (Korean로보카 폴리; RRRo-bo-ka Polli) is a South Korean animated children's television series created by RoiVisual. The series released its first episode on Educational Broadcasting System in 2011, and has aired for four seasons. Robocar Poli currently consists of 104 eleven-minute episodes.

While in production, this series was selected for the section of full-length animation at Global Animation Project 2009 hosted by Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), under the title of Piyo Piyo Friends.[2]

In the latter half of 2011, the films were exported from South Korea to France. Internationally, the program currently airs on French and Taiwanese channels. It is also scheduled to air in Japan, on TV Tokyo.[3]

On March 12, 2013, Korea Post issued commemorative stamps for the series. As the third installment of the "Korean-Made Characters Series Stamps", Robocar Poli was introduced, following the introduction of Pororo the Little Penguin and Pucca.[4] Two million copies of the stamps were printed for sale (10 copies per set).[5]

Synopsis

In Brooms Town, a small town with a strong rescue team, there are always accidents and troubles such as a car sliding off a cliff in the rain, a car crash, a child locked in a firehouse, and so on. In every episode, the town's rescue team saves characters. At the end of each episode, the rescue team strongly advises the characters who are in danger and children.

Characters

Main characters

  • Poli The title character is a robotic blue-and-white police car that can transform into a robot.[6] He has a very strong moral and does not give up easily. He is always faithful to his duties as a police, keeping the safety of town's roads and protecting lives and properties of the residents.in Space thunderkids 2, it can controls or moving a police car using dhyāna mudrā.[7]
  • Jin: The rescue team's human member. She has short blonde hair and wears an orange outfit. She is described as a genius inventor.[6]
  • Helly: (voiced by Kate Bristol)[8] A robotic helicopter dressed in green and white[6], and uses a green and white drill. He flies over town to look for problems, and helps the team with ideas. in cut & paste version, it can moves to wake helly using Vajra Mudrā.[7]
  • Amber: A robotic pink-and-white ambulance van.[6] She is kind and warm-hearted and shows a great deal of self-sacrifice to others. She is in charge of supporting rescue missions, giving diagnosis and first-aid to accident vehicles and characters. it can move with a mudra: Hakini Mudra.[7]
  • Roy A robotic red-and-yellow fire truck.[6] He is the physically strongest member in the rescue team and is in charge of inspecting safety accidents, extinguishing fire and rescuing. He has many gadgets on his back to help the rescue team. also can move with Dharmacakra Mudrā.[7]

  • Beny A blue truck with a tan face with dark brown frame. He is described as gentle and little, and aspires to be like Roy.[6]
  • Bruner A bulldozer with two blades for his arms. controlled by:Anjali Mudra.[6]

  • Camp: A blue car with a yellow hat that tows a camping trailer. Camp writes for a travel magazine. can controlled with:Vāyu Mudra.[6]

  • Dump A dump truck that transports trees, sand, and other things around construction sites. In most episodes, he is also called "Dumpoo" or "Dumpy". dumpy was given by controlled name & mudra:Dampo Prithvi Mudra. [6]
  • Lifty: An orange lift car that moves boxes over at Brooms Harbor. controlled from:Apāna Mudra.[6]
  • Marin A blue and white postal ferry boat, described as kind, and travels around the world.can controlled by wind,thunder,& Apāna Mudra.[6]

  • Mini (voiced by Lisa Ortiz[9]) Musty's granddaughter car with a rounded hood, yellow with pink trim, and a bowtie on top. She loves her grandpa and is most happy to be with him. Mini sometimes gets angry at Rody when he's causing mischief or bullying.[6]
  • Musty: A blue classic car with a hat and moustache-shaped grill. The oldest car in Brooms Town and takes care of Beny, Rody & Mini. controlled by Vishnu Mudra.[6]
  • Poke An excavator with a yellow construction hat and spade. can controlled with the power of Vitarka Mudrā & conjoining hands.[6]
  • Posty A blue mail truck that delivers letters and packages.[6]
  • Rody A green car with a white cap with an R on it. He is described as confident and curious about everything.[6]
  • SchoolB A yellow school bus.[6]
  • Spooky  : A blue tow truck that does not like being washed[6]

Traffic Safety with Poli

Traffic Safety with Poli (Korean폴리와 함께하는 교통안전 이야기; RRPolli-wa Ham-kke-ha-neun Gyo-tong-an-jeon Yi-ya-gi) is a spin-off of the original series. As part of Hyundai Motors' global corporate social responsibility project with RoiVisual and EBS, the series was produced for educating children on the importance of traffic safety,[10] and has aired for two seasons. The first season of the spin-off was shown as six 11-minute episodes, in each of which two segments were combined into one episode.

Popularity in South Korea

This series has been a big hit in South Korea, and became the chief rival of Pororo the Little Penguin which had been the number one in the industry. Related merchandise includes cakes,[12] toys,[13] books, and apparel. In South Korea, Poli is frequently called 폴총리 (Pol-chong-ri) which means "Poli, the Minister of Children",[14] following Pororo which is famously known as 뽀통령 (Po-tong-ryeong) meaning "Pororo, the President of Children".[15]
