Ssshhhh...Koi Hai (English: Ssshhhh...someone's there) is an Indian thriller/horror television anthology series created by Cinevistaas Limited and Contiloe Entertainment for Star Plus. The first season was created by them together, while later seasons were only created by Abhimanyu Singh and were aired on Star Plus' sister channel STAR One. The series which premiered on 27 July 2001, ran for three seasons ending on 16 May 2010.

Shiva Rindani, Vindu Dara Singh, Ronit Roy, Mac Mohan, Sunil Grover, Murali Sharma, Hrishikesh Pandey, Kamya Panjabi and many more have been starred in the series. Shakti Anand, Indian TV actor has also worked in the first season and two episodes of second season.[1]

The series was based on fictional stories. The show covered supernatural events including ghosts, ghouls, goblins, zombies, and haunted houses.

Brother Aditya and Abhimanyu Singh started their production house Contiloe Films Private Ltd in 1996, and made serials for Doordarshan.[2]

Abhimanyu Singh was partnering with Cinevistaas for post-production facilities.[2]

Season 1 (2001-2004)

The first season was a weekly season airing on every Friday nights. The season managed to gain high TRP ratings and became a hit.[3]

In July 2002, the show introduced a ghostbuster named Vikraal (first played by Mamik Singh who was later replaced by Salil Ankola) and other ghostbusters. This time, the show's target viewership were children.

Plot

The show takes place after the return of Mayakal, who was the most powerful wizard. He captured Vikraal. Guru Satyacharya observed that Vikraal could not handle the situation alone, and therefore decided to call Mitunjay's daughter Bijli and Captain Kishan in to help Vikraal. These three defeated Mayakaal. These ghost-busters' mission in life was to get rid of all the ghosts & evil spirits in the world. These three ghost-busters were called the Trikaal, who were always ready to fight against evil powers. After the contribution of both of Trikaal, no one was supposed to kill them. They fight with ghosts and get caught in bottles. They also have an office known by Trikaal's office.[4]

Season 2 (2006-2009)

Due to the huge popularity of the first season, the channel decided to bring back the series in its second season. The second season was titled Ssshhhh...Phir Koi Hai, (English: Ssshhhh...someone's again there) which was a weekly season, airing on every Friday nights.[5] This time too the season became a huge hit. On 6 July 2007, a special series named Ssshhhh...Phir Koi Hai - Aryaamaan of four episodes was aired. In this series, Indian television actor Rahil Azam plays the role of Aryaamaan as the ghost buster. His mission was to cast away all kind of negative powers in the world. This special series ended on 27 July 2007. On 14 December 2007, the season aired on Friday and Saturday, each story being split into two episodes. In January 2009, the format of the series was changed. Each story was made to run for eight weeks.

Season 3 (2010)

The series was once again brought back by the channel. Ssshhhh...Phir Koi Hai 3 aired on every Friday and Saturday nights, later shifting on every Saturday and Sunday on 10 April 2010.[6]

Reception

Ratings

STAR India senior creative director Shailja Kejriwal stated about second season, "We are extremely delighted at the response that we have got from the audience for Ssshhhh...Phir Koi Hai." But from March 2009, the TRPs of the second season declined with every passing week, which the channel had to unfortunately shut down the season on 22 August 2009.[7]

Accolades

Roy Baretto won Indian Telly Awards for Best TV Show Packaging in 2002 and 2003, while Hiroo Keswani won for Videography (Best TV Cameraman - Fiction) in 2004.[8] Cinevistaas Limited won Indian Telly Jury Award for Best Special/Visual Effects for television in 2002 and 2003, while Contiloe Entertainment was nominated in 2009.[9]

Cinevistaas Limited also won Indian Television Academy Awards for Best Visual Effects in 2001,[10] while Contiloe Entertainment won for Best Thriller / Horror Serial in 2007 and for Best Thriller Programme in 2008 and 2009.[11][better source needed]
