Top 40 of 1980[edit]

The chart of best selling singles in the UK for 1980 on this page appears to be the same chart counted down by Tony Blackburn on Radio 1 at the time, which include sales data until the end of November/beginning of December (a point he made on the programme himself).

However, I have found evidence of lists of the 100 best selling singles in the UK for each year in the 1980s which takes into account sales for the period not included in the lists which have been added to Wikipedia i.e. the sales for most of December.

I think this situation applies to the sister articles for the early 1980s in British music. Most of the time, the changes when comparing the charts are minor, but it does mean songs that peaked in later November/December are rated in higher positions. For example, the chart that counted sales for the calendar year 1980 placed Abba's "Super Trouper" at 4, Blondie's "The Tide Is High" at 6 and John Lennon's "(Just Like) Starting Over" at 10.

Several other charts on these pages appear to be the Radio 1 versions, but the 1984 version is the one that goes up to the end of the year, and has Band Aid at number 1, "Last Christmas" / "Everything She Wants" at number 6, "We All Stand Together" at number 14 etc. - on the Radio 1 version "We All Stand Together" was only number 40, and "Last Christmas" / "Everything She Wants" certainly didn't make the Top 10, although Band Aid did make number 1 (I'd been under the impression that they hadn't before checking my recording).
