Copyright violation[edit]

Please note that this page has gone through several rounds of having material added which appears to be in violation of copyright, and subsequent removal of said material, in accordance with Wikipedia copyright policy. Before adding any copyrighted material back to this page, please see Wikipedia:Copyright problems, which outlines the procedure which must be followed to provide a copyright release to Wikipedia. I know this procedure appears cumbersome, but it is necessary to protect the legal rights of all parties. Thanks.

Please also note that providing acceptable copyright release may not be sufficient to cause material to be included in Wikipedia. Even without copyright encumberment, material may still be removed if it does not meet the guidelines for inclusion. Please see Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not for more details on what types of material may not be acceptable. --RoySmith 15:44, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Bio is missing[edit]

{{Editprotected}} Bio is missing - request to add official biography. (Tomwatson1962 16:39, 24 May 2007 (UTC))[reply]

The official biography is not licensed under the GFDL and is also not in the public domain. Therefore it can not be added to this article. See Wikipedia:copyrights. Garion96 (talk) 21:17, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Note to those not familiar with the jargon: GFDL stands for GNU Free Documentation License. -- RoySmith (talk) 13:47, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

More on the copyvio issue[edit]

This is addressed to the various people who have made numerous attempts to add material to this article only to have it removed. It is worth explaining why it has been removed. The problem is simply that Wikipedia cannot accept material which is constrained by a prior copyright. We would love to have a real article about Adolfo Carrion, but such an article must be written as original text, unencumbered by copyright. So far, what keeps happening is the same copyright-encumbered text keeps getting added, and keeps getting removed because of the copyright. It is very important that Wikipedia be protected against legal issues such as copyright complaints, and for that reason we need to be very strict about what we accept. So, to all of you out there who keep trying to contribute to this article, please do contribute, but do it in a way which is compatabile with Wikipedia:List of policies. Note that we are particularly sensitive to the legal issues surrounding Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons. Thanks. -- RoySmith (talk) 13:59, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to note that the information that kept getting posted to this site was Adolfo Carrion's official biography from the official Bronx Borough President website, which is in the public domain because it is the work of a government agency. This means the material posted is inherently compliant with GFDL and therefore compatible with Wikipedia. I acknowledge that Wikipedia is sensitive to Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons, so I would like to edit the page with a originally produced and well edited entry, but am unable to do so because of the protected status of this article. I have applied to remove the protection. Wbennin 21:13, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I belive it is true that works of the US Government are in the public domain, but I don't believe that is automatically true of all government agencies. Indeed, the New York City web site [1] asserts copyright (Copyright 2007 The City of New York) on the bottom of each page. Please understand that I'm not trying to disuade you from editing the article (and I see that User:Garion96 has already lifted the protection, so you can do so now) . On the contrary, I recognized that it is a glaring ommission to Wikipedia's coverage that we don't have a good article about Mr. Carrion, and I hope that you can write one. Be aware, however, that simply cutting and pasting a large chunk of text from another web site is unlikely to meet our editorial standards and policy requirements. Thanks for contributing. -- RoySmith (talk) 01:32, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
