Inaccurate additions on the page about Alex Pedersen (politician)[edit]

Hello, "Thenightaway." Hoping to resolve this through this "Talk" venue. A sentence you added is misleading and a sentence you added is inaccurate and so there is a suggested revision included below...

You added the following: (1) "In 2023, Pedersen pushed for an amendment to Seattle's Comprehensive Plan that would impose 'impact fees' on new housing." This is materially misleading. As noted in the Seattle Times article you cited, the revenue from the fee would "help fund city transportation projects,' but your addition omitted that relevant point. The fee would apply to all new buildings, not just housing, AND, per the Seattle Times article, it "would likely exempt low-income housing and child care facilities." The amendment would allow a subsequent deliberation on a potential ordinance that could impose the fee, but the amendment to the Comp Plan does not "impose" the fee.

You also added, (2) "Pedersen said that the new tax would allow Seattle to reduce its taxes on homeowners by raising them on renters." This is inaccurate. That was never said and the fee is not a tax. The potential reduction in taxes would be for all properties, not just with homes. There would be no taxes on renters.

For your consideration, a more accurate description would be something like this: "In 2023, Pedersen and Councilmember Lisa Herbold pushed for an amendment to Seattle's Comprehensive Plan, as authorized by State law, that would allow 'impact fees' to be imposed on new buildings "to help fund city transportation projects" and which "would likely exempt low-income housing and child care facilities." The proposed amendment was rejected by the Seattle City Council with four Councilmembers in favor and five opposed.

You could also link to the primary source of the amendment itself (Council Bill 120635, co-sponsored with Lisa Herbold) -- which includes the final vote count -- rather than to a NON-Seattle Times source: https://seattle.legistar.com/LegislationDetail.aspx?ID=6309315&GUID=0123A548-DE7E-440D-98BE-DB3D0205BF16&Options=ID%7CText%7C&Search=120635&FullText=1

We could also handle this through Dispute Resolution / Third Opinion, if you prefer. Thank you. WikiEditorUpdates (talk) 1:18 pm, Yesterday (UTC−8)
