Fair use rationale for Image:TomPettyDebutCover.jpg[edit]

Image:TomPettyDebutCover.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

story of the song[edit]

The "lyrics and rumors" section notes that the song has been said to be about a suicide on the University of Florida campus, and presents compelling evidence that the story isn't true. But it doesn't allow for the possibility that the song really tells the fictional story of a suicide at Florida. It's odd that that's omitted, because it seems (to me, at least) that that is actually the case. TypoBoy (talk) 17:34, 30 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Petty himself gives every indication that is not what the song is about, fictional or otherwise. Piriczki (talk) 13:40, 1 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Now that I re-read the block quote from Petty in this section, I notice the sentence, "The song has nothing to do with that." He seems to be saying explicitly that, whatever the song is about, it isn't about a suicide at Florida. Maybe it isn't necessarily about anything. The reference to 441 makes me speculate that it was originally a fictional story about a suicide at Florida, but Petty feared (and perhaps was even threatened with) legal trouble from the university. I understand, of course, that that kind of speculation doesn't belong in the article. TypoBoy (talk) 12:51, 6 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The only "user commentary" I can possibly imagine Piriczki can claim that I added to my recent clean-up of the previously awkwardly worded "lyrics and rumors" section was the fact that Beaty Towers does not have balconies. (Which, btw, is not nearly a good enough reason to lazily hit the "undo" button since that was not the only change I made.) I'm one of the many, many thousands of UF students who have actually lived there over the years, and I supposed we can all be accused of having done "original research" by looking around our dorms. However, the building is actually pictured right next to the paragraph, making its architectural features (and lack thereof) pretty clear. And if that's not enough, I just found and added enough references to satisfy any reasonable human being. So, there you go. Zeng8r (talk) 14:43, 10 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Genre citation[edit]

So user:Y2kcrazyjoker4 has twice removed a citation to an interview in which Tom Petty states that he and the Heartbreakers play "just rock" because, the user claims, Petty is not a reliable source when comes to the genre of his own music. Alrighty then. Mind you, he did not change the (correct) genre description, just removed the source. I have neither the time nor the energy to get into an edit war over something so stupid, but I wanted the article's talk page to reflect the fact that a good quote was removed for no good reason, and if anybody wants to retrieve it, the dif can be found here. --Zeng8r (talk) 11:40, 9 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Um, if I may intrude into yet another editing dispute over the genre of this song, let me point out that as I mentioned above, Tom Petty himself says it's "just rock". That's a generalize genre description that I think all reasonable people can accept, yes? --Zeng8r (talk) 13:43, 31 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
