Combining??[edit]

Why are these two cemeteries combined under one heading? It's true that they house the graves of multiple important blues and jazz legends, but they are several miles apart.

Excellent idea. Fatidiot1234 (talk) 01:42, 12 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Similar incident in the south[edit]

A few years ago there was a similar cemetery incident somewhere in the deep south (a gulf state, I think) involving a cemetery manager who was charging people for cremations but tossing bodies in the woods behind the cemetery, and giving random ashes/concrete mix to customers. That ought to be linked to the article. --98.232.181.201 (talk) 04:30, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Separating[edit]

The Burr Oaks scandal needs to be separated from Restvale. Or at least, a chapter on the Burr Oaks scandal. In 2005, there was an investigation at Burr Oaks about sunken graves and missing markers. >>> also, the crematorium was in Georgia, and is not related this story. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lesstutrey (talkcontribs) 23:12, 12 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've taken the liberty of splitting these articles; I believe the situation is grave enough that Restvale, an unrelated cemetery not owned by this company, should not be tainted by sharing a page with an article that will soon be more about atrocity than notable burials. Good idea, very nicely done. Thank you very much. Fatidiot1234 (talk) 16:01, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This Article Is A Prime Candidate For Development[edit]

It seems there should be enough information available at this point to develop this article into a more robust, encyclopedia-quality entry. Obviously, the brunt of the article would be related to the recent scandal that unfolded here. As a result, care would have to be taken not to give off the vibe of a 'news story'. Seeing as how the graveyard has a notable history as well, I'm sure there's interesting factual information (not related to recent events) that could be incorporated into it (beyond the famous people buried there). Perhaps someone who has relatives buried there would have access to some documentation related to the place.

I know it's in a suburb, but when I hear 'graveyard in Chicago', I instinctively picture a relatively small plot of land by a church, beset on all sides by city roads and buildings. From the details released about the scandal, it's apparent that this place must encompass an enormous tract of land. I wonder how hard it would be to find one of the reference maps (generally provided for visitors to find specific graves) and get an image of the property's layout in the article. This could also be used to better detail the more recent events that have unfolded.

One last thing, doing a cursory search for info related to this place, I stumbled upon one article that references atleast 2 other Burr Oak Cemeterys (in Wisconsin). We should determine a way to differentiate Wikipedia's entry of the same name to prevent tarnishing the reputations of other cemeteries named 'Burr Oaks'.

I would take this on myself, as I've been eager to find an article worthy of developing from the ground up, but I've got alot of other projects going on in my life atm, so I won't have an opportunity to do this justice...atleast not for several weeks. I'll be glad to assist another editor, however. Just let me know what I can do. -K10wnsta (talk) 20:51, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Geographical coordinates are incorrect[edit]

The current value of the geographical coordnates is wrong: 41°51′51″N 87°54′27″W. This incorrect value points to a different cemetery, namely the Mount Carmel Cemetery, located in Hillside, Illinois. The correct value, in decimal degrees, for Burr Oak Cemetery should be: 41.66417 N , 87.73329 W.
