Trimming[edit]

I'm restoring 75.69.241.91's edits. Info about Bruce Jenner belongs in the Bruce Jenner article, et. al. Simply because something is referenced doesn't make it notable or appropriate for inclusion. Gerardw (talk) 10:47, 8 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The relevance of the material is that it shows what would (or wouldn't) be the qualifications and draw for an audience—at the time and in retrospect—about the eclectic cast and crew put together for the film. Neither the article in general, the section in particular, or the specific paragraphs in question are so long that they need to be edited for length. The edit to Walker's section, for example, is particularly egregious and sloppy. It is relevant to the impact of this film that Walker never directed another film. In fact, again to use the example of the Walker edits, it leaves a simple and irrelevant single sentence. Further, the edit being reverted is so hasty and clumsy that it omits Walker's Emmy nominations and ends the sentence with a comma. Clearly and undeniably given these things for example, the deleterious edits are arbitrary, destructive, not really closely scrutinized by those defending the deletions, and leave the sections less relevant than before, not more so. Abrazame (talk) 23:02, 8 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am the editor who deleted some of the information here. Perhaps I was hasty in some respects, and I should have read the article in it's entirety and put some more thought into my edits, but are you really contending that my edits were only performed in the interest of destruction, and that I ended on a comma purposely? I would respectfully contend that the sections regarding Jenner and Walker were poorly written and rambling in style. Jenner's audition for 'Superman' has no direct relevance to this article. If this were a book by David J. Skaal on the making of 'Can't Stop The Music', it may have had a place, but as it is, it's akin to babbling, as is a totally off topic comparison between this film and 'Grease 2'. Now perhaps there could have been one sentence outlining that Carr's later film 'Grease 2' did worse in some respects, but there is no contest going on here. There were multiple rambling sentences about 'Grease 2' that had no place in this article, and the fact that it's a musical and Carr produced both are the only real connection here. I could thought a bit more about Nancy Walker's mention, but I was looking at it the way I looked at Jenner's entry which was pretty much off the wall in the extended rambling about 'Superman'. Walker's Emmys should have been mentioned. But the Walker entry was probably a lapse judgment on my part. That Jenner auditioned for 'Superman', and the off topic paragraph about 'Grease 2' really don't fit well and do not merit much, if any mention. My intent was to delete off topic rambling (which was there), not to create a bad situation. It seems like I threw the baby out with the bath water in this case.

Jenner/Superman Paragraph[edit]

By the way, the most recent edit seems more like what it should be. Good job to whoever worked on it, with the exception of an entire paragraph regarding Jenner, his accomplishment's for the five years prior to his film role here and on a film role he was never cast in. There is no reason for that much irrelevant information about Jenner, nor is there a need to bring the readers up to speed on Bruce Jenner's life and work from 1975-1980, a passing mention would suffice. The article flows poorly as it is, and this needless, and overly long tangent of a paragraph slows it to a stand still. Jenner's almost/sort of/ actually never happened 'Superman' casting would probably not merit an entire paragraph on his own page. A simple sentence would reference his fame at the time. The single line about 'Grease 2' fits well, and the needlessly over long reference to Jenner would also likely benefit from some "trimming". (75.69.241.91 (talk) 01:15, 9 December 2009 (UTC))[reply]

Bruce Jenner or Caitlyn Jenner[edit]

Listing Caitlyn Jenner here can lead to confusion - is the character Ron White meant to be a transvestite? Why isn't Caitlyn's name in the film's end credits? However, I recognize that Bruce is no longer her name.

According to the consensus at Jenner's talk page, she uses "Bruce" along with male pronouns when referring to pre-transition events in her life. I think the way we have it at the Olympics article is a good compromise to avoid any gender confusion within the article while still acknowledging Jenner's identity. James Wilder[edit]

I don't think that James Wilder the football player is the actor mentioned in the casting section of the article. And even though IMDb lists James Wilder (actor) as the correct person, that doesn't seem correct either, since he would have been only 12 (and I see no mention of the name James Marcel in that bio). Can someone find out who James Marcel/Wilder really was? Thanks, Aristophanes68 (talk) 02:21, 29 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Fixing footnotes[edit]

This article has a footnote definition which was originally placed by Checkingfax about five years ago. The definition was recently removed, but the footnote is still in use within the article. In that condition, the article renders with a red error message: Cite error: The named reference a was invoked but never defined (see the help page).. I have replaced the reference definition so the error doesn't appear and the footnote is properly defined. I don't think correcting articles to not render with errors is a controversial change, but the change has been reverted twice.

I hope we can agree that it is important that Wikipedia articles don't contain error messages due to missing reference definitions. The use of the footnote in the first place has previously reached consensus in this talk page (and others), and should remain. -- Mikeblas (talk) 15:30, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Accolades?[edit]

Can the nomination of a film for being really bad in multiple categories actually be listed in a section called 'accolades'? Being that the 'award' was satirical nature, it doesn't seem like a proper insertion. YY 12:18, 19 July 2022 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by YingYang2 (talkcontribs)

The award is satirical and, perhaps accidently, the section title works in kind. ;-) Hotcop2 (talk) 14:50, 19 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
