Pike's racial heritage[edit]

Given that Pike was originally from a place called Mojave, has there been anything in canon to suggest he might have been of Native American ancestry? I'll settle for non-canon (novels or comics) too, as long as it's cited as such. 23skidoo 04:47, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Capt Christopher Pike.jpg[edit]

Image:Capt Christopher Pike.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Assessment[edit]

I have added a quality assessment rating and importance rating to this article. Feel free to change them as the article improves! Also, feel free to add more issues to the list below, and strike them out (strike) when they're completed. — OranL (talk) 00:32, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notable issues[edit]

  • The article requires more secondary sources, not just the episodes themselves, for references.
  • Some of the topics discussed in the lead section are not fully discussed in the episode, most notably, his involvement in the first pilot of Star Trek: The Original Series.
  • I am tentatively marking this as High importance, since the character was supposed to be the captain of the original series' Starship Enterprise. We should work on finding more sources for this character to make sure we have the correct and complete story.

Anonymous edits[edit]

Pike is not the first captain of the Starship Enterprise. According to canon, it is Jonathan Archer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonathan_Archer) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.85.46.11 (talk) 18:50, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article makes it pretty clear (and I added another wikilink if it didn't) that the Enteprise referred to is the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701). Alastairward (talk) 19:16, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Pike picture[edit]

Who is the actor in the the picture here? Jeffrey Hunter or Sean Kenney?--Knulclunk (talk) 03:36, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That's Hunter. Kenney's Pike was confined to a wheelchair and could not move - just send commands to the chair with a direct neural connection.--SarekOfVulcan (talk) 06:21, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Confined to a wheelchair"[edit]

I think that it's overly politically-correct to remove this phrase on the grounds that it might offend some. The wheelchair is his life-support system -- he can't get out of it, he can barely move even with its help, and it provides his only method of communication, which is restricted to blinking for yes or no. He doesn't just _use_ that chair, he is incapable of even surviving without it. "Confined" is a proper term here.

Now, if this were the Jill Kinmont article, I'd support your point. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 14:08, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Disagree. The phrase is always inappropriate, because wheelchairs enable the person to function, the exact opposite of "confining" them. I would compromise on another phrase that isn't "confined," however, if you have one. NickDupree (talk) 14:19, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm. Would "dependent" be less offensive, in your opinion? --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 14:35, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm amenable to that compromise. NickDupree (talk) 17:31, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Like so?--SarekOfVulcan (talk) 20:52, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That works. Thanks for being willing to compromise. NickDupree (talk) 00:35, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
My pleasure. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 00:52, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Shouldn't that be "dependent upon"? -- Scjessey (talk) 13:41, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
All of this is speculation. All we can say is that PIke "is seated in a wheelchair". We don't know if he's confined to it, or dependent upon it, or has injuries requiring it, or that it is his life-support system, because the movie doesn't say. And so I changed the article to reflect it. 20:55, 23 January 2013 (UTC)

Futurama[edit]

Isn't Pike referenced in the Futurama Episode, Where No Fan has Gone Before? See http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:http://theinfosphere.org/Where_No_Fan_Has_Gone_Before Not sure if that's worthy of inclusion in the article. Gryftir (talk) 23:52, 24 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Short story in "Captain's table"[edit]

I was reading the book "The Captain's Table Omnibus" http://www.amazon.com/Captains-Table-Omnibus-Star-Trek/dp/0671040529 (ISBN-13: 978-0671040529) Here there is a story from the period when pike captained the enterprise. I came here to learn more of the character and wondered why this book wasn't mentioned, since it seems a part of the franchise, and quite a good story. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.254.29.189 (talk) 08:10, 2 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned references in Christopher Pike (Star Trek)[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Christopher Pike (Star Trek)'s orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.
